I’m 16 weeks pregnant and unfortunately from the start of my pregnancy I only want bland, beige food including carb heavy ready meals...I really don’t fancy any leaves or veg 😖 Eggs, potatoes, mayo, bread and butter is my everyday diet. In addition today I craved McDonald’s badly so my partner got it for me and now I’m feeling super guilty and worried that my baby doesn’t get enough nutrition. Do you have any advice on sneaking veg into your diet ? Or maybe my cravings will change ?
I’ve heard that baby’s taste can be dictated by what mother ate during pregnancy but is that only an urban legend? If not my baby girl will be a super fussy eater 😳

I was like this in my first pregnancy, and worried quite a bit but my midwife assured baby will take the nutrients it needs from what you’re eating and your pregnancy supplements . Not to say you should eat fast food everyday but don’t feel guilty when you do.

I did have GD in the end ( nothing to do with my eating habits FYI) so had to change my diet but the bland craving had gone by then. I had a lot of smoothies and tried to fit in a lot veg and fruit in that.

Also my daughter has good eating habits, loves her brocoli and carrots and fruit. So total myth.

I lived on pizza, pasta and mc donalds during my first pregnancy. DS isnt fussy at all. He tries everything and eats whatever i put in front of him now, no problems at all.
Second pregnancy i was more healthy. I lived on veggies. DD is very fussy and difficult when it comes to food! Her first words at every meal are "I dont like this!"

I ate houmus almost every day of my pregnancy and my 19 year old hates it! He's perfectly fine physically.

The only thing I want is carbs too although nothing quite satisfies me even if I'm full. I got a fortified cereal so at least I was getting some goodness into me. I also find I can stomach fruit juices or soups more easily. I try to feel good about eating cheese or drinking milk (lots of calcium). I don't want to eat cold chicken (we have it a lot in sandwiches), I don't fancy fish or eggs. I threw away some smoked salmon and scrambled eggs I made which sucked.

I was like this as well in the first trimester and was told it was fine. I took lots of vitamins (choline, fish oil, pregnancare, magnesium) so that I knew the baby was able to get the nutrients she needed, and I had fruit/veggie smoothies when I could (berries, banana, and spinach, you can't even taste the spinach!). Eggs are very healthy and McDonald's every once in a while is fine!

If it helps, I've been on mumsnet a few years and I see posts like this alllll the time, so your not alone. I'd go so far to say this is the norm for most. In my own pregnancy, I ate the same for the first trimester or two.

Just keep taking your vitamins and fruit/veg when you can, you'll be fine! Baby will be fine. Don't feel guilty.

Yes, babies can "taste" in the womb but I think it's from much later on. Last trimester I think. It's funny because I ate a few things non-stop in my third trimester and my baby loves them now-I swear that's why 😆
