False positive - devastated

Morning,
I took a clear blue early detection test on Saturday December 5th after missing my period for a couple of days and it was positive. Of course I didn't believe it! Been trying for a year and a half so I took another FOUR tests and all came back postitve. Pretty much taken a test every other day since then all come back positive. Noticed some very light pink spotting/bleeding last night and as a first time mum I was worried even though internet said spotting in your 1st trimester is normal. Called 111, ended up at urgent care where the doctor did two pregnancy tests that both came back as negative. He told me I'm not pregnant but I have white blood cells in my urine and the blood is just my period.

I'm absolutely devastated and I don't understand how this could have happened. He said to take antibiotics and try a pregnancy test again in a week just in case but he's fairly certain it's not a pregnancy. Has this happened to anyone else where it turned out the doctor was wrong and it was a pregnancy?

I know I'm clutching at straws here, I just can't believe it after reading about how "rare false positives" are, I go and bloody get like 8 of them.

I would hold fire......i am not convinced that dr is right.

It sounds like a chemical pregnancy to me.

Have you tried another home test? See what that comes up with?

I had this too when I had my ectopic, all my tests at home were quite strong, I went to A&E with pain and bleeding, they did a test there and theirs was negative. Went up to gynae, they did bloods and they came back positive. Not sure if their tests are not very sensitive or what 🤷🏻‍♀️

Mumwithrum · 15/12/2020 07:48

@Aprilbaby21 I took one this morning and it still says positive

@MrsB2019x I would have thought they were better than shop bought ones! I haven't had any bloods done or anything yet as can't get in to see doctor, should I keep my midwife appointment on 23rd?

I would recommend contacting the EPU.

They will be able to test your HCG levels and will have more insight into what is going on.

I had a very very similar experience OP.
The midwife I saw said there was nothing for her to do and if I was pregnant I was probably miscarrying.
The spotting went on for a few weeks and I went back to the dr.
Long story short, that similar experience is 14yrs old and 5 foot 10.

MrsB2019x · 15/12/2020 09:11

@Mumwithrum Yeah def keep your appt for 23rd but also call your local EPU, they can start blood monitoring now so you’re not stuck in this limbo for another week

If your tests are positive, do a blood test and measure your hcg levels. Then see if they double in 48 hours... Good luck.
