Accidentally hit my belly with a bag of shopping

As I was getting off the bus , I accidentally knocked one of my bags of shopping into my stomach 😩
It was a little heavy - main thing in there was a 6 pint bottle of milk

I've felt one kick since ( I got off the bus just after 8 o'clock ) it's now approaching 10pm

I know it's probably all fine but I can't help but feel a little anxious. Can someone tell me to calm down & that LO is fine

I was going to google it but I'd rather not see the horror stories on there

Thank you !!!

Have a cold drink....something really icy. It will wake the baby up and you'll feel better.

doctorhamster · 14/12/2020 22:08

Of course the baby is fine!

FestiveChristmasLights · 14/12/2020 22:08

How far along are you? You need to call your assessment unit to go in for a KB blood test and monitoring.

Ksi91 · 14/12/2020 22:08

@FestiveChristmasLights I'm 31 weeks

You don’t know that. Babies can die from fetomaternal haemorrhages caused by a thud to the abdomen.
DramaAlpaca · 14/12/2020 22:09

It's fine, don't worry. Your baby is very well padded and comfortable in there, and won't have come to any harm.

Haveacrackingday · 14/12/2020 22:12

I'd go to your hospital or ring them to be monitored!! It's reduced movement whether it was caused by the shopping bag or not you still need to be checked !! Hope your okay did

fee1234 · 14/12/2020 22:13

I shut the car door on my bump at 35 weeks (just got new car and mis judged how huge I was) grazing and bruising the whole front bit of skin. I went up to get checked out and baby was completely fine!

Thatwentbadly · 14/12/2020 22:14

Is your movement normal for you or not? If the movement is not normal for you then you need to ring the hospital.

fee1234 · 14/12/2020 22:15

Ah posted too early - always worth getting checked out. I did have to get anti D injection (negative blood) in case there was any mixing of baby's blood to mine.

Ladybird345 · 14/12/2020 22:18

Try either having something very cold or very sweet and laying down and just concentrating on baby movements. Sometimes they can be easy to miss if you are busy doing something else.
If you are still worried after doing this then ring your pregnancy unit who will be able to advise what to do next.
Hope you're okay.

bubblybon20 · 14/12/2020 22:19

Roll a cold glass over your stomach! Whenever I get reduced movements, it tends to wake him up! If nothing works I would suggest going to get checked! X

AintOverUntilTheCatLadySings · 14/12/2020 22:22

I'd go to the hospital because of the reduced movement - but I doubt the shopping would have done any damage.

I electrocuted myself during my last pregnancy. Baby was fine - but could explain why she's completely loopy now that she's three 😂

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 14/12/2020 22:22

Reduced movement - you need to call the hospital.

Banging a bag if shopping on your stomach really isn't something to be worried about.

There's nothing to say the two things are related.

Maybe the assessment unit can tell OP for themselves if that's what she needs to do Hmm

OP, do you feel like movements are reduced from what's normal for you? If so it's always worth calling for your own peace of mind, but as a PP said, baby is really well cushioned in there so I'm sure everything will be absolutely fine. Try not to worry.

Vicalam · 14/12/2020 23:23

I had a couple of incidents at work earlier on in pregnancy (I work with adults with learning disabilities and challenging behaviour) where they were aggressive. I worried about it loads, spoke to my midwife or maternity assesment centre and both times it was fine. If you're worried just give them a call, they'll triage you over the phone and decide if you're better off been seen or not. I've driven myself mad with worry and it really helps to speak to them and that's what they're there for.

Yes, from a very significant impact, not a knock from a shopping bag. FFS. If this were the case, no pregnancy would survive.

Your baby is perfectly fine, op.

MyBabyBoyBlue · 15/12/2020 01:52

Have a cold drink and lie on your left side for half an hour counting kicks. This was the advice my midwife gave when I was whacked in the bump by a lady on a rush hour tube. In the end, I went in to get checked - baby was fine.
