39 weeks, period cramping

I'm sure these type of threads have been done to death, but just feel I need a bit advice or hear others experiences.

I'm 39w + 4 and for most of today I've been feeling period like cramping. It doesn't seem to be coming and going though, it's sort of constant but with peaks. Also dull ache in my lower back, although this could be because I've been on my feet batch cooking for an hour or two.

I had a tricky tummy yesterday as well. I'm going out of my mind wondering if this could be the start of it! Could it be??

It could be. 🎉

SpacePug · 14/12/2020 13:43

Could be! Could still take a while though but hopefully it's the beginning for you

Keepingcomfy · 14/12/2020 15:47

The not knowing and desperately looking for signs is driving me mad

It’s not the right time of day but a good long walk can get things going.

Or rest up, if it isn’t too uncomfortable.

All the best!

Lil28 · 14/12/2020 19:09

@Keepingcomfy
Aw I'm exactly the same! I'm 39+5 today and I've been getting really bad back pain for days now. I'm hoping this is the start as I have been having my mucus plug for 2 weeks! Good luck and keep us updated xx

WitchesHoof · 14/12/2020 19:10

Anything yet?

TheDuckSaysMoo · 14/12/2020 19:11

That's how it started for me. Good luck.

Keepingcomfy · 14/12/2020 19:48

I'm just back from the walk, which was good! The cramps aren't as intense as they were earlier but I still have the ache in my lower back. Trying not to get my hopes up but it's hard not too!

Fingers crossed this is it for you! Get yourself nice and relaxed today, walk, watch a film, cuddles on the sofa etc to get that oxytocin flowing.

Mammyloveswine · 15/12/2020 07:12

Ah op fingers crossed you are now in labour!

Sounds like the start of mine! I then laboured through the night, went into hospital around 9am and he was born 11.25am in the birthing pool still in his sack! On his due date!

Good luck!

Keepingcomfy · 15/12/2020 12:33

To my surprise, absolutely nothing happened last night 🤣 I had a semi decent sleep, and feel pretty good today. I am shocked. The cramping etc last night was so intense. Suppose it's just a hint of what is to come!

@Keepingcomfy
Sorry nothing happened for you! Just try and relax and get sleep while you can. I'm 40 weeks tomorrow 😬💞

PocoyoandEllie · 15/12/2020 19:57

I am 39+3 and so desperate for signs I think I am actually stopping anything happening 🤦🏼‍♀️

Keepingcomfy · 15/12/2020 20:10

@Lil28 I'm 40 on Thursday. It's so bizarre that it can go from intense signs, to nothing. Just been for a big walk and back on my birthing ball. Hope things get started for you soon 🙏

OP posts:
Keepingcomfy · 15/12/2020 20:12

@PocoyoandEllie I am the same, I really hoped I wouldn't be like this but it's hard not to feel so aware of absolutely every little thing

JingleJohnsJulie · 15/12/2020 20:13

That's pretty much how it was for me both times. When it finally kicked it was quick enough, about 8 hours for DC1 and 4 hours for DC2 Smile

Lil28 · 16/12/2020 15:22

@Keepingcomfy I know it's so misleading when that happens. Still nothing for me, I've been for a long walk today, expressing, raspberry leaf tea and bouncing on the ball! Fingers crossed as I would rather not have to have the sweep tomorrow xx

Keepingcomfy · 16/12/2020 17:33

I'm having more cramps today but nothing significant. My stomach went rock hard earlier, just above my belly button but I think baby had just moved a wee bit.

Are you going to get the sweep tomorrow? I've been offered one for Friday and I have been really back and forth. Sometimes I think definitely not but then I think what's the harm

Thatwentbadly · 16/12/2020 17:38

Sweeps do some risks associated with them.

I had prodomal labour with both my births. It definitely sounds like your body is getting ready but it could still be a while yet.

1stbabs · 16/12/2020 17:42

Hi! 40 weeks today here, and like you have had period pains all week. Nothing today though 🙄 . Actually looking forward to my sweep tomorrow, desperate to get things going!

adagio · 16/12/2020 17:47

I had period pains every evening for a few hours for about a week before the real deal at 40+4 - i think it’s the latent stage when everything is gearing up but not fully cooked yet Grin
Lots of nice long walks and bouncing on the ball, clary sage baths etc. The more baby’s head is in your cervix the better to get things going. In theory. In practice I think they turn up when they like 🤷🏼‍♀️😁

PocoyoandEllie · 16/12/2020 20:10

I just really don’t want to be away from DS1 on Christmas eve/day but I know its sod law thats what will end up happening 😭

Lil28 · 17/12/2020 03:03

I've been having the rock hard belly but right at the top! Very strange I'm going to talk to my midwife today about it. Yes I'm going to have the sweep today! Praying my cervix is open and soft so she is able to do it 🤞🏼

Lil28 · 17/12/2020 13:04

@Keepingcomfy I've just had my sweep and I'm 1cm dilated. She said out of all the women she's done sweeps on this week I'm the most favourable' so fingers crossed 🤞🏼 x

LikeSilentRaindrops · 17/12/2020 13:13

I’ve been contemplating writing the same post! 39 weeks today, period pains off and on for the last week and a half. Lost my show on Monday morning and mucus plug (loads and loads of it Envy < not envy) has been coming out for the last 5 days. Genuinely thought it would be out early!

Also a bit worried that it goes into Christmas as I have two DDs and don’t want them not having me around for it Xmas Smile
