Mistaken due date, or really overdue?

My mother claims that I was born a full month late, on the second induction attempt. From how she tells it, there were no signs that I was in any way postmature (8 pounds, slight jaundice). As I approach my own first EDD, I am starting to wonder. From everything I've read, there's a strong genetic component to length of gestation. Based on that, I was figuring I would go late, but now, at about 37+2, I am feeling twinges and starting to wonder.

My mother also says that my brother was 3 weeks early... and 7.5 pounds.

What are your opinions -- Was I really born a month late, or is it just that my mother can't count?

My mother also claimed (But my Dad was a GP and confirmed this)I was 3 and a half weeks late and took 2 inductions, I definately wasn't postmature and weighed just 5.10
My first dd was born on edd after waters broke the day before and weighed 8.5
ds was born 1 week early weighing8.3
My sister however went over in both pregnancies and had to be induced on both occ.
IMO i is just the lick of the draw!

I went 10 days over with DD. The midwives started asking probing questions about whether DH and I could count (although much more politely ) - but did say one possibility was a very early, unidentified miscarriage. Their view was that it's not that unusual to get a +ve test, miscarry and then conceive again, such that mother doesn't realise the miscarriage happened and thinks she's a month further along than she actually is.

Hope you have a good birth, regardless of when it is

I had wondered about that, and the midwife confirmed today that yes, it's quite possible to get pg, miscarry, and concieve again without knowing it, so I'm thinking that's probably what went on with my mother. We will see what happens with me, though!

Thanks for your replies.

personally I think official due dates are for the birds

in France they give you a 4 wk period of time in which you should expect to deliver and that makes sense- everyone has different cycle lengths, gestation periods and while you can think you've conceived on 1 particular day it could be up to 4 days before / after as well.

I hope these twinges etc all work out at a good time - let us know who arrives!!

I went 3 weeks and 1 day overdue with dd (now 17 mths). She was induced when the hospital wouldn't let me wait it out a minute longer, but she still took 2 days to arrive. Her skin was quite flakey which is a sign of being a bit overcooked, but the placenta was fine and she was quite healthy.

I think that the worry is that when the placenta does pack up, it does so very quickly.
