Brown spotting at 5 weeks

Evening ladies.

I know there's nothing anyone can say for certain, and I'm very early, but today at 5w 2d I've had brown discharge when I wiped, nothing on my pantyliner. I've had 2 early miscarriages in 2018 following spotting/ bleeding and earlier this year I had a TFMR in July at 20 weeks as our little one was too poorly to survive in this world (I had spotting before my bfp but no other bleeding), so I am already anxious and now I've got this extra worry.

I'm on progesterone pessaries 3x a day as well as clexane injections and 75mg aspirin one a day to help my body sustain a pregnancy. I know the spotting may be from the pessary inserter aggravating my cervix but I also can't help to worry this is a bad sign. As I'm so early, I don't really have any symptoms except maybe slightly tender boobs and I've had a few headaches in the last few days. I know a scan won't really tell us much at this stage,

Just wondering if anyone else is around 5 weeks and wants to chat through the next few days / weeks.

Hi I’m currently at the same stage pregnancy as you are and have had brown spotting along with a red bleed yesterday morning that quickly subsided only when wiping and a slight amount on a pad but nothing today. Also had a few occasions of brown spotting since getting my bfp. I’m currently also taking pessaries just 2X400mg which I debated adding an extra one however my clinic disagreed it’s so difficult isn’t it. Apparently it is really common so try not to lose hope but I fully understand that’s easier said than done. I have a scan Friday with my fertility clinic so counting the days. Strange you mentioned headaches too as yesterday morning I woke up with a severe headache which may of been a migraine I’ve never suffered from them before however they’re apparently common around this stage too. It’s so scary isn’t it if you need to offload I’m here Smile

Hi, same here on 2 pesseries a day and have had a little bit of brown almost mucous like discharge. I have been told that they irrational the the cervix, inserting the back way is supposed to help with this although I haven’t tried that yet.

@Jingleq, thanks for your reply. I'm sorry you're going through something similar. My pessaries are 200mg, which is why I think I'm on 3 a day as it's a lower dose. I hope your scan comes around quickly and all is well. I rarely get headaches, so I'm pretty sure it's pregnancy related but who knows eh??

@Maeva20 thanks for your reply too. My pessaries are for vaginally use only, otherwise I'd consider swapping. I'm trying to link it to the pessaries but there's still something in the back of my mind.

I referred myself to my hospitals maternity department on Monday, so going to call them tomorrow to chase up a response and see what they say.

Yeah I would definitely whatever eases your mind at this moment is the best thing for you. Fingers crossed for us all.
I have an early scan on Friday I feel total dread for it, like I don’t want it to come but it also feels so far away...
it’s such a trying time for us ladies - sending love and luck to all xxxxx

RunnerGirl123 · 13/12/2020 19:30

@Maeva20 good luck at your scan on Friday. How far along are you?

I had this and baby was fine. Had an early scan and heartbeat was strong.

Maeva20 · 13/12/2020 21:55

@RunnerGirl123
I am 6 weeks 2 days, I will be 7 weeks on day of scan, I am pregnant thought IVF so they give an earlier scan than usual before they discharge me (I think) xxx

Maeva20 · 13/12/2020 21:55

*through bloody phone!

RunnerGirl123 · 14/12/2020 08:31

Thanks @whenwillthemadnessend, it's nice to hear a positive story.

@Maeva20 ah I really hope it all goes well for you and you see little one's heartbeat.

I had no more spotting last night before I went to bed, so hoped it was a one off, but I've woken up this morning with brown watery discharge, which has never been a good sign for me. Will ring the maternity department that I've self referred to this morning. I know a scan at this stage will likely be inconclusive so I don't know whether to ask for one on Friday or Monday next week instead... although I'm half expecting just to be told to sit tight and wait and see.

Try not to freak out with brown discharge. Much easier said than done, I know, but it doesn’t necessarily indicate something has gone wrong. I had brown discharge at 9 weeks and barely slept that night and was so scared but luckily it didn’t turn into anything sinister.

All you can do is watch it, and that’s all the midwife will do I’m afraid.

whenwillthemadnessend · 14/12/2020 11:54

Good luck. Dd now a teen and driving me nuts so try not to worry. X

RunnerGirl123 · 17/12/2020 22:49

Good luck with your scans tomorrow ladies.

I thought my spotting was residing but had pink discharge tonight. It was after a bowel movement (sorry tmi). I mentioned the spotting to my midwife and she's told me not to worry unless it's fresh blood and / or I'm cramping badly, then to go to A&E.

Hi Runner,
I wouldn’t worry, it’s pretty normal at this stage. Your uterus is doing a lot of changing so it’s pretty normal to have something in these early weeks.
Thanks for the good luck. Anxious but excited xxx

Hey! Just thought I would come back in case anyone finds this in the future. I had my dating scan today and all was well and I'm measuring 2 days ahead from what I thought. We're so relieved and know there's still a long way to go, but thought I'd update with a positive outcome.
