Raspberry leaf/dates.

So I’m 34 weeks this week and going to start the raspberry leaf and dates. I know you gradually build up the RL but do you build up the dates or just go straight to 6 a day? Also any recommendations on where to buy both from? The dates especially seem quite expensive if it’s 6 a day. Also does it matter which type? I’m not sure I’m able to eat them so thinking of putting them in smoothies. I can’t stop thinking they look like dehydrated testicles 🤮
Thanks

mmm I love dates!
I sometimes cut them up and cook them in porridge with some cinnamon and brown sugar, might that work if you don't like them?

JustAnotherUserinParadise · 14/12/2020 15:35

or date flapjacks :)

I love dates and enjoyed the taste of raspberry leaf tea but this did absolutely nothing to bring on labour (for me). I would recommend avoiding dates that have other ingredients like sulfur dioxide as they taste disgusting. Medjool dates are a good one to go for - they taste like caramel and are nice and juicy.

@Girlmum91 they’re not supposed to bring on labour, they’re just supposed to make labour shorter and I’m all for that. I’ve put them in smoothies, it’s the only way I can eat them. Way too sickly otherwise.

Isn't 6 dates a day a bit of a sugar overload?!
I read that it helps for labour but thought maybe 2 not 6 😅

SpacePug · 16/12/2020 15:00

If it's medjool it's only 3 a day as they are huge, but the deglet Noor dates I've been having 6 (until I ran out but I've bought more now.) I'm 37+3.
I like the deglet Noor dates, they are yum espesh with a squeeze of chocolate peanut butter on

Jo idea if they helped, but I did the tea, raspberry leaf tablets and 6 dates.

Dates I chopped up and ate on granola for breakfast as the milk added made them less sickly.

Labour start 8am on sat morning, baby born by 4pm. Natural birth, no issues. Fairly fast I think for first birth

I would do it again

Apparently it’s 6 dates a day. Seems a lot but if it works I’m good with it 😂

I did dates and raspberry tea and will again this time, definitely works! I was in active labour for less than an hour!

Lovemylittlebear · 19/12/2020 14:12

When do you start with the dates and the raspberry leaf tea? X

Oneandabean · 19/12/2020 14:33

@Lovemylittlebear start both at 34 weeks. Raspberry leaf you start with 1 a day and build up to 3 or 4, and dates it’s 6 every day.

Thank you x

Date are only 6 a day if you’re having the smaller ones. The studies it’s all based on is for 75g per day, so 3ish medjool dates or 6 smaller ones.

Lovemylittlebear · 19/12/2020 20:32

Ah brill thanks :) I love those in smoothies so that shouldn’t be too bad. I remember the raspberry leaf tea from first pregnancy though And it smelt like horse wee 😂
