Hi beauties, (excuse my English it’s my 3rd language Grin ) so one of my daughters came to visit and after visiting she happened to have left one of her pregnancy test kits at my house and stupid me thought hmm rather than throwing it away as it was due to expire in 2 months I decided to use it and to my surprise it showed a faint line ( faint positive) Shock I’m 65 and last time I had my period was 6 years ago. Never bled after that. Ran to the shop and bought two more test kits which showed another very very faint positive line then I decided to buy a digital one which said not pregnant. This has left me very confused. I did have sex 3 months ago without any contraception but at my age surely how can I be pregnant? If anyone can give me any answers as to why this is happening I’d really appreciate it

Have you not gone through the menopause already? I find it very doubtful that you could be pregnant but can't explain your results. Did the line show within the time frame? Could be an evaporation line if it came up later

Lou98 · 13/12/2020 10:34

Sorry not really got any answers OP but if the last time you had sex was 3 months ago I would expect the lines to be dark and the digital to say pregnant. Unless you've had sex more recently, while not impossible, I'd think it highly unlikely. Although strange about the few different tests. I think I would book an appointment with your GP if you can, see if they can do bloods or help with answers

See a doctor. Other conditions can cause a rise in HCG which is what gives a positive pregnancy test. It's something you shouldn't delay though.

tikha · 13/12/2020 11:06

At your age it could be something else or a false positive evap line.. Hcg reference range is less than 9 for women who have undergone menopause rather then less than 6 but am not sure about this info. It would be better to go to the gp to rule out other causes of having bhcg in your system

Janetveryshocked · 13/12/2020 11:53

Hi dementedpixie, thanks for the reply. Yes I have gone through menopause my last period was at 59. Yes I find it really strange too, the line showed after 1 minute, yes I’m hoping it’s an evaporation line (just googled there) but I feel I have to pursue it further

Hey Lou98, appreciate the reply.
Yes that completely does make sense, 3 months is a long time and the lines should be darker, I feel I’ll give it a couple days and recheck. If I get similar results I’ll definitely pay the go a visit. Really hoping it’s a false positive as the lines are very faint

Hey 3rdtimelucky2019,

Will definitely see my gp. I’ll give it one more re test if I get same results I’ll go to gp. Thanks for the feedback
Could you please tell me what the conditions might be?

Hi tikha I appreciate your reply,
I’m hoping it’s an evap line but a trip to the go seems very well in order. I’ll retest in two days and still go to the go for a better outlook. Thanks

@Janetveryshocked I agree regardless of what further tests show, you should visit the GP to rule out anything else. As 3rdtimelucky said not something to be delayed

3rdtimelucky2019 · 13/12/2020 15:25

Please don't wait until you've retested. Call the GP first thing tomorrow, it's potentially urgent.

LittleTiger007 · 13/12/2020 16:16

Hi @Janetveryshocked please don’t worry as post menopausal women often show a faint false positive on pregnancy tests. This is a common thing.
I know because I’m 48 and the doctor didn’t believe that I was regnant because of my age despite the positive results. I did turn out to be pregnant but I had many other pregnancy symptoms and am a fair bit younger than yourself. If you have gone through the menopause then I shouldn’t worry. Of course see your doctor if you’re uncertain but i was told a post menopause woman would usually have a false positive pregnancy test due to the natural hormone shift later in life.

Janetveryshocked · 13/12/2020 23:43

Janetveryshocked ok I will definitely call the gp tommorow morning! I do hope it’s nothing sinister, beauty of aging huh Hmm

Hi LittleTiger007, thanks for writing

Congrats to your pregnancy Smile wish you best of luck. A few friends of mine said the same that it can happen to post menopausal women and I’m honestly relieved to find out it’s a common thing but I do still think further investigations won’t cause any harm. I’m just trying to stay positive and hope everything turns out well.

@Janetveryshocked I agree it’s best to be sure. Good luck to you whatever the outcome

At a certain age, the reproductive function of the female body begins to gradually fade — menopause begins. If a year has passed after the last menstruation, that is, the menopause has passed, then a woman cannot become pregnant naturally (this can only be done artificially, using a donor egg and hormone therapy to create conditions in the body for carrying an embryo). And you haven't had a period in 6 years. A pregnancy test is often uninformative during menopause: the result is affected by a hormonal imbalance in the body. For example, I know the story of how a woman gave birth to twin boys at the age of 67, they were her first children. A woman became pregnant with IVF, hiding her true age from doctors. The children were born absolutely healthy. If you have a confirmed pregnancy, it will be happiness and a miracle! I can advise you to buy a lot of toys for the baby and comfortable clothes for pregnant mothers by type www.preggoleggings.com/collections/maternity-jeans to look 25 years old!

Hi I am brand new to mumsnet.
I am about 5 weeks pregnant and today I have started to smell wet dog really strongly in my living room. I cleaned intensely but nothing is getting rid of the smell Confused. Is this just a pregnant thing?
