20 week anomoly scans - where are they done?

I want to get an anomoly scan done, but not sure where they are done routinely and where they are not. Due to my job I am moving across the south of England but I have a choice of locations, so therefore would like to choose somewhere that does anomoly scans.... please can anyone advise me where the anomoly scans are done routinely in the south of england and where they are not. I am currently in Portsmouth where I have discovered they only do a 16 week scan and not a full anomoly scan. Anyone out there who can help?

I would be surprised if they weren't done everywhere. maybe a phone call to NHS direct to ask about it? You can get them done privately, have that as your backup plan in case.

It's the 12 week dating scan that seems more likely to get missed out by some trusts, from what I hear.

How far do you class as "south"? I think everywhere in London does 20 week scans, also Kent and Surrey AFAIK.

I'd be inclined to pick somewhere based on other criteria and pay for a private scan if it happens to be somewhere that doesn't do them routinely, though.

I thought they were done everywhere, in England anyway - I know someone in Scotland who didn't have a scan after 12 weeks.

Are you absolutely certain they don't do them where you are rainbow? Is it St Mary's?

flowerybeanbag · 22/10/2007 19:29

Sorry have just realised you're moving anyway, so disregard my question about St Mary's!

Thank you for all the replies, could you help some more?!

They do scans here in portsmouth (St Mary's)but only if you go see the consultant and twist his arm behind his back and have a very good reason, ie genetic problems in the family. I have my mw on the case trying to sort an appt with the consultant here, but I might have to move before then, and want to be ready for the next place as I am already 16weeks, so I am going to be moving and immediately trying to get the scan done.

The most likely areas I will be moving to are:
Bristol, Bath, Yeovil or Southampton, although none of these are definite yet.

If I do have to resort to getting the scan done privately - have you any recommendations for where to go?

Might be an idea to start a thread in Other subjects with a subject line something like "Bristol, Bath, Yeovil or Southampton? What antenatal scans did/do you get?" to attract the attention of the locals.

Thanks demonaid - will do that
