cyclogest and brown spotting... linked?

Hi,

Is anyone or has anyone used cyclogest pesseries during their pregnancy and experienced brown spotting and all been okay?
I have heard that the 2 can be linked but don’t want to be wishful thinking.

Thank you.

Hi!
Yes I had this! I swapped them from pessaries to suppositories (isn’t pregnancy with progesterone support fun eh?!) and it stopped completely. Maybe change it up or alternate! I’m now 13 weeks 💕

Thanks for the reply, nice to know you’ve been there and all is well.
Sorry to sound stupid 😐 whats the difference between those? xxx

Pessaries go up your vagina, suppositories go up the bum. Cyclogest can be used either way. HTH!

WeavingWandering · 12/12/2020 19:41

I got told that they can irritate your cervix - and there’s always the chance you scratch yourself a bit inserting it if you use the plastic things or have long nails.

But I’d always check with your midwife/clinic if you are worried

Just use them bottom end, never even bothered using them vaginally, read they are messy give u a lot of discharge. So sit on the loo use a clean or gloved finger with a wee bit of ky gently pop into rectum job done

Ahhh I see! Never even knew that. I’ll give they a go. Thanks so much for your replies :)

Yup, had brown spotting at week 7, promptly freaked out and went for a scan. Seems it was caused by the progesterone irritating my cervix.

Maeva20 · 13/12/2020 08:10

Thanks Maria.
Egging myself on to use the back way! God help me.. xxx

@Maeva20 hi sorry to jump on your post. I'm 8wk5 today also on progesterone and woke up to a bit of brown spotting and a tiny clot. Did you spot for a while? And did you get to the bottom of why?

Maeva20 · 14/12/2020 11:49

Hi
@PutOnAHappyFace It was on and off for 2 days. But I genuinely feel like it is the progesterone. I have a scan on Friday so waiting to see is all okay then as I can’t imagine they would get me in earlier and it has stopped now.

Xx

Melanibraith · 10/11/2021 06:39

I am in my 2 ww and Doctor gave me cyclogest to use as progesterone. I spotted brown on day 4 but I am very hopeful. Who has had this experience and tested positive.

Simsop · 15/11/2021 20:10

I'm using the cyclogest pessaries and just started with slight spotting today. Test positive this morning though. I am around 6 weeks. Got my first scan on Friday. Just hoping the spotting is normal? As I've had 4 mc before. I have an appointment with my midwife Wednesday so will ask for her advice.

Vplum87 · 28/06/2024 08:55

Hello
I know I am years late to this post but the same is happening with me. Started the pessaries on Monday, it is now Friday and had brown discharge last night and this morning. I have a scan on Monday afternoon but I am in a panic as I have had 3 previous miscarriages.
any advice? X

figgyandpig · 20/07/2024 15:37

@Vplum87 hope everything was ok in the end? I’m 10 days post transfer and got a positive on day 6. By day 7 I had brown discharge, I assumed it was implantation spotting but my clinic said it will be the progesterone pessaries irritating my cervix. My clinic said to pop them in the back passage which hopefully will help.
what I’ve read is that everyone seems to get the brown discharge on them.

hope all is well, I’m interested to know how you got on?

Vplum87 · 20/07/2024 15:57

@figgyandpig

the discharge stopped after 5 days but unfortunately at our 8 week scan we discovered baby had stopped growing and there was no heartbeat detected. We went on to have another confirmation scan following this and was confirmed as having a missed miscarriage.

figgyandpig · 21/07/2024 07:56

@Vplum87 oh I’m so sorry this happened. It’s not fair sometimes. Will you have a chat with the dr to change anything?
ive got my bloods tomorrow (Monday) to confirm my pregnancy or not and I’m really worried. I don’t have any symptoms & the brown is still there when I wipe. We also had a missed miscarriage last year following our 6 week scan, pregnancy after loss is so so difficult. Xx

Mags2901 · 10/09/2024 11:18

I’ve been on cyclogest for 6/7 weeks now with my ivf miracle and started having brown discharge yesterday.. spoke to nurses at my clinic and they told me not to panic as that’s normal and as long as it’s brown and I don’t have cramps then everything should be ok. Also advised to try to put it back way as cyclogest can irritate cervix. Cannot wait for my first scan on Friday to ensure that everything is ok!
