Hi guys, so I found out I was pregnant just over a week ago, and called the gp they said I was about 5 weeks (6weeks now) according to my last period. However I went for a early scan a few days ago and all that was shown on the scan is a sac, she assured me I was pregnant but said I was early than I thought I was...how can this be? And do I have anything to worry about?

GPS typically date from first day of your last period but every woman ovulates at a different time in their cycle, you could just ovulate late in your cycle. If they said nothing to worry about I'd try and relax a bit but I know that's easier said than done!

You dont normally count the first 2 weeks, I.E the 2ww.

If you went for a scan a few days ago then you were actually under 6 weeks going by LMP. I'm surprised a clinic actually scanned you that early. I've seen most places don't do it until at least 7 or 8.

The latest you would have been at your scan is under 6 weeks, and you could be even a week earlier than that as LMP dating assumes you ovulated on the 14th day and it just an average. Many women ovulate later.
It is normal to only see a sac at 5ish weeks.

Do you have a followup in 2 weeks?

I don’t understand why people rush off for private scans a week after finding out they are pregnant (I’m assuming this is a private scan and not an nhs one because of pain/bleeding). I had a private scan with this pregnancy as I miscarried at 7 weeks earlier in the year, I waited until 8 weeks as there would be a heartbeat if the pregnancy was progressing. The company did not offer any scans under 7 weeks anyway and suggested being over 8 weeks. You aren’t going to see very much at 5/6 weeks pregnant so it’s a little pointless and causes unnecessary worry. I’d hold off having a private scan until you are over 8 weeks.
