cervical stitch question

Hi everyone,

I am currently pregnant through IVF. During IVF my private clinic told me that when I get pregnant I should have a cervical stitch as my cervix is very scarred from a large LLETZ procedure. They also mentioned that I'd need fortnightly follow up appointments to check for infection after the stitch was put in.

I have just heard back from my NHS midwife who said that I would only need one follow up appointment after the stitch is put in.

I am confused by this contradictory advise. Has anyone had a stitch on the NHS recently - and did you have fortnightly follow ups to check for infection after the stitch was put in?

Any experiences would be really appreciated. Also I'd love to know what week of pregnancy you had to stitch put in too.

I had my last preterm clinic appointment last week and have my stitch removal scheduled for 12th Feb :) During the appointment the consultant asked what my birth plan is and advised if I want a scheduled C-Section, they would remove the stitch during the surgery. Otherwise for a vaginal birth (I opted for this), the stitch is being removed at 36+2.

I was also advised I'd likely go into labour within 2 weeks of the stitch removal, more-so as I already have funnelling to the stitch and the stitch is helping my cervix measure around 19-20mm while it is in (was measuring 16mm prior to the cerclage).

Thank you for you reply @cervixissues. How exciting that you have a date booked in to have the stitch removed! And so soon! So great to hear such a positive story and good to hear that you haven't been advised against a vaginal delivery.

Hey just reading all the informative stuff and had my stitch put in 2 days ago due to shortening of cervix at 20 weeks at 17mm. Just wanted to know how you guys did and how was removal and any efffects after the stitch
