Have I miscarried?

After some advise. I am / was 5 and a half weeks pregnant, I had a bleed last night following some severe cramping. I have had a miscarriage before and the cramping was the same, however the bleed has been so much different. Last time it was all over within 3/4 hours. This time I’ve had a really slow bleed, its like a heavy period but I haven’t passed any tissue as of yet. This afternoon my bleeding has stopped entirely. I have had awful nausea this week and I’m feeling even more sick today. I’m so confused! I thought if I had miscarried my pregnancy symptoms would have subsided?

Has anyone been in a similar position? I’m worried that my body isn’t expelling the pregnancy properly this time and still thinks it’s pregnant..

The nausea/symptoms etc can linger briefly while the hormones are still there before a miscarriage is complete, as I discovered last week. You should probably call your midwife/gp/maternity department for them to check it out and see what's going on, if it is an incomplete miscarriage.

Firstly, so sorry.

You should go to your EPU and they can check it out for you.

The same thing happened to me and unfortunately it was a miscarriage. I had the same as you on a Wednesday, cramps and bleeding, then it stopped. Friday the EPU confirmed the loss then on the Saturday started bleeding again.

I really hope everything is ok and it is a false alarm though Flowers

Sorry to hear this, I would maybe give ur gp or epu a call and they can see what's going on x

Nikkinoodle20 · 10/12/2020 16:23

I have phoned my surgery and they said they can’t refer me to the epu until 7 weeks. I am worried about the incomplete miscarriage but not sure what else I can do if the surgery won’t refer me! I’ll try phoning again tomorrow I suppose. Thank you for your help and also sorry for your losses. X

I had a miscarriage at 6.5 weeks where the bleeding started fairly light on the Saturday night, then got steadily heavier and was accompanied by cramps on the Monday and Tuesday (when I saw a GP). However it was really Wednesday evening when the more severe pain and tissue passing began and that lasted for about 5 hours, after which I still bled heavily but without much pain for a couple more days. The GP gave me signs to look out for that would indicate incomplete miscarriage- no reduction or worsening of pain and bleeding, or still testing positive 2 weeks later.

I'm sorry you're going through this.xx

OP at my local you can just walk in to the EPU, no referral from GP. I went at 5 and a half weeks and they did all the tests etc.

sorenipples · 10/12/2020 18:51

Can you take another pregnancy test and see if is still showing positive? I know in the past that is the first thing my EPU would do.

blanc00 · 10/12/2020 18:51

PS, think EPUs are all walk in, you won’t need a referral.

My GP was useless when I contacted and basically said it was just one of those things. When I went to the EPU, they took temperature, BP etc to make sure no signs of infection, and told me to call them if any signs of xyz symptoms. They took it so seriously that it made me wonder why the doctor has been so blase about it.

Please don’t feel you have to through this alone at home, not knowing what is going on x

Had the same type of bleed at 8 weeks and the cramps I am now 14 weeks pregnant and baby’s fine for the mo ❤️ Wish you all the luck

Crazycatlady83 · 10/12/2020 19:27

I had bleeding very early in my pregnancy and I just called the EPU directly. Perhaps google your local maternity hospital and see if you can get a direct number?

3rdtimelucky2019 · 10/12/2020 20:24

EPUs aren't walk in as standard unfortunately. All done on a trust by trust basis in terms of referral.

Thank you all so much for your replies! I’ve had a bit of a crazy few days hence the late reply! I paid for a private scan in the end. But it turns out that the baby has a heartbeat and I’m measuring at 6 weeks 😊.they aren’t sure what the bleeding was but all is looking well!
