After a 5th hospital visit today with bleeding which they believe is from cervical erosion they have referred me and I’m due to have a Colposcopy at approx 25 weeks. Dr mentioned she isn’t concerned it’s cancer, but wants it checking regardless. This has scared the living daylights out of me as it’s not even something I had considered!

Has anyone had this before? Dr assured me it’s fine when pregnant but I’m really
Worried and concerned.

If anyone has been through this or has advise it would be greatly
Appreciated.

Hi OP,

I'm a nurse who works in Gynaecology and sometimes I'd be working in the colposcopy clinic. We see this quite a bit- cervical ectropion is very common in pregnancy and also after pregnancy- it's hormonal changes to the cervix that can be a cause of the bleeding. I actually have cervical erosion/ectropion myself, it causes bleeding time to time but it doesn't cause much problem. Regarding colposcopy when pregnant, it'll literally be a look using a scope at the cervix, it won't be painful it's basically like getting a smear. I wouldn't think they'd be doing any treatments for the ectropion whilst pregnant, however if it continues after pregnant they may recommend treatments such as LLETZ, cold coagulation or silver nitrate. Hope this helps :)
