Scan photos...

Sorry this is a bit of a ridiculous question but I’m just wondering, is it cheeky of me to ask the sonographer for extra scan photos? She gave me 4 at the last scan which was brilliant as I wasn’t expecting any with it being an early scan. However, we want to announce to family with a special box each with scan photo in on Christmas Eve. There’s 4 sets of parents and 2 siblings plus we’d obviously like a picture for ourselves. Would I be ok asking for 8 🙈 Obviously if not I’ll get copies but I’d just love to have the original photos for people.

Is it a private or NHS scan ?

MsHedgehog · 09/12/2020 16:51

A lot of hospitals don't even give you scan photos anymore!

No harm in asking - worst thing she will do is say no.

OverTheRainbow88 · 09/12/2020 16:55

We have to pay for them for nhs

HappyDaze90 · 09/12/2020 16:55

It’s NHS, 12 week scan. Wow, I would be absolutely gutted if they didn’t give me any at all.

Yeah, I guess the worst thing they can say is no. 😂

@OverTheRainbow88- Really?! Can I ask where abouts you are? I’m in North East and they gave me 4 at an 8 week scan.

In Bristol

LookDontTeuch · 09/12/2020 17:00

Scan it or take a photo on your phone and print out extra copies at Tesco/Asda/Anywhere with one of those instant print machines.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 09/12/2020 17:02

We don’t even get the option to buy ours- we have to take a pic of the screen. Honestly OP you can’t ask, it’s a medical appointment.

HappyDaze90 · 09/12/2020 17:04

@OnlyFoolsnMothers- I can’t believe they don’t even offer you them to buy. That’s such a shame 😔 I’m such a shy person I’ll probably just take what I’m given 😂

We have to pay where we are. I can’t remember there being a limit though. They just asked how many we wanted.

PandaBabyJuly · 09/12/2020 17:16

I got given one photo .... but outside the department it said you had to pay for them - £10 for 4

So I guess I was lucky she gave me one for nothing.
I'm in Essex though

3rdtimelucky2019 · 09/12/2020 17:18

£5 for one scan here, paid for in pound coins. I don't mind paying. The service is having your pregnancy checked. Photos are a billable extra in my eyes.

HappyDaze90 · 09/12/2020 17:22

Well, after reading these replies and hearing so many have to pay, I’m not going to ask for any extra and just be happy with what I’m given and the fact we still appear to get them for free here!

Although if there is an option outside to pay for more, I definitely will be taking that up.

Youvegotafriendinme · 09/12/2020 17:29

Also have to pay and it’s £5 a photo. I’m in Kent

Fairywings123 · 09/12/2020 17:31

Im in the north east and was given 2 free scan photos with first scan, and couldnt buy anymore due to covid, so ended up taking photos and printing out ourselfs xx

Pumpertrumper · 09/12/2020 17:32

We are near your area.

They give them free at early scans though OP so can see why you got confused.

It should say on your apt letter (right at the bottom) I think it’s maybe:
£5 for 2
£10 for 4
£15 for 6

Something like that

PinkPlantCase · 09/12/2020 17:35

They were free at my 12 week scan but the letter for my 20 week scan says we have to pay for the next ones

Fairywings123 · 09/12/2020 17:39

It said on bottom of the scan date letter £4 per photo abd only to bring £1 coins, to be told afterwards the machines arnt in use due to covid 19, what a bugger! James cook university hospital, may have been a slight change now tho as that was mid november xx

BertieBotts · 09/12/2020 17:40

Defo take a photo on your phone and print. The actual scan photos are photosensitive and heat sensitive, so they don't last long when you keep them - if you hang them in sunlight for example they will fade.

HappyDaze90 · 09/12/2020 17:41

@Fairywings123 That could maybe be why I was given them at my last scan, because the machines are out of order.

A bit like parking ticket machines and free parking 😂

Fairywings123 · 09/12/2020 17:43

Very true! Didnt take long at all to fade with our sons scan photo, put it in a frame on the window ledge and soon faded to wear you can hardly see, very good point bertiebotts xx

HappyDaze90 · 09/12/2020 17:45

Thats very good to know, thank you. Will they be ok with me taking a photo during the scan?! Sorry, can you tell it’s my first 🙈😂

Fairywings123 · 09/12/2020 17:46

@HappyDaze90 yep thats probs why 😂, thing is took all day the day before for me to find £12 in £1 coins, frigging nightmare 😂

MaverickDanger · 09/12/2020 17:48

We have to take a photo of the screen - there is a app where you can download your photos at £10 per photo.

It seems quite a waste of money to offer this many free photos.

kittenpeak · 09/12/2020 17:48

You have to pay for them anyway so ask her to print as many as you want. Ask her in advance. They're £3 each where I am. I had to have a couple of "reassurance" scans as heartbeat alowed and I got those for free, but the standard 12 and 20 week scans you pay for
