Could somebody explain?

So i had my booking in appt yesterday and i asked if i could get more antisickness tablets which she agreed to so this morning i phoned my gp just to make sure there was a prescription wrote for me and the lady i spoke to said i have been given it along with folic acid and aspirin. Does anybody know why i would be given aspirin?

I have to take aspirin because of the high blood pressure that runs in my family. My mum and her dad both had high blood pressure and if you have it as well, you are more at risk of pre-eclampsia. It's just a precaution x

I wasnt aware i had high blood pressure she didnt mention it yesterday so i just wanted to know what it was used for

To be fair, I think they ask most pregnant ladies to take it now as a precaution anyway. Please don't panic :) x

I was never asked to take aspirin when I was pregnant last year, so I'm not "most pregnant women" are just given it

Maybe give your midwife a call to ask? Especially if she didn't mention a concern about your blood pressure

Ask your midwife or gp. I had asprin with my second because of previous preeclampsia but don't think it's a routine thing.

I take it following multiple losses.

I've seen a few threads where people have been prescribed it and are not sure why. Worth a call.

It can be given to reduce the risk of pre-eclampsia, if you have certain risk factors, one of the risk factors they give it for is age.

I was about to ask about your bmi.
I think they should have discussed that with you in person. I would give them a ring so you onow how much to take.
I disagree with the person who said most pregnant women recieve it. If you have a healthy bmi and blood pressure you wouldn't be offered it.

This is a fact sheet produced by Southampton hospital about low dose aspirin in pregnancy. Nb the sheet is about 150mg per day but not everyone takes that I only took 75mg.

Is it mandatory to take aspirin if BMI is over 30?? Mine is 33 and I’m 27 weeks but never once been told to take aspirin?🤔xxx

Generally I think they are interested in pre-pregnancy BMI more than whatever it grows to as the weeks go on, but I could be wrong.

They do a risk assessment for pre-eclampsia. I had to take aspirin in my first pregnancy because I got 1 point for BMI over 30 and 1 point for FTM. This time, I only get 1 point for my BMI so I don't have to take it.
