Feeling anxious about 20 week scan

I feel really anxious about the 20 weeks scan since they sent me the letter.
On the letter it states to only bring one person as this scan could provide upsetting information due to defects and abnormalities.
Is anyone else worried?
Who else is around 17 weeks?

The "could provide upsetting news" but may be to stop people going in thinking it's the "gender scan" and treating it as a fun family activity rather than an important medical appointment.

I understand your worry, I'm nowhere near 20 weeks but am very anxious for my twelve week scan and can remember the worry of the anomaly scan in my previous pregnancy's.

I'm 20+5 & I have my 20 week scan on Friday. I'm so nervous there's something wrong with baby especially as we were trying for 13 years. I feel like I'm constantly waiting for bad news.

Yes I think that they have started to add the “only bring one person as this scan could provide upsetting information due to defects and abnormalities” as I think a lot of women seem to think it’s a “gender reveal” rather than checking the heart, brain and other vital organs are functioning/forming properly. I often roll my eyes at people’s excitement for finding out the sex at this scan, that really isn’t the point in the scan! Pre-covid you’d see people arriving with half their extended family for their scan, they probably got fed up with this too.

To be honest I think it’s really odd wording. NHS have historically only allowed one person in when doing ultrasound scans. I think this is just echos from not allowing anyone in other that the mother due to covid restrictions.

I know that some sonograhers are really not happy that partners are allowed back in and were only given hours notice from the hospital to make the ultrasound room covid secure when partners were allowed back in suddenly. I think this is push back from that.

Statistically though OP every thing should be totally fine. Try not worry Flowers
