I've just posted a question regarding pain/bleeding on the child birth forum! I'm 3 weeks post section and still bleeding, I was told to expect about 6 weeks of bleeding with it stopping and starting. About 3 days ago I started getting period like pains which is concerning me a bit more as they seem to have started randomly.

NWnature · 06/12/2020 15:50

I think I did for maybe 4 weeks , nothing majorly heavy and started to trail off toward the end.

rykar · 06/12/2020 15:51

I didnt see that message... I think I'm being impatient especially if your still going through it.. knew it wouldn't ve an easy option having a section but no one likes bleeding for these amount of times!!

The same amout of time you would after having a vaginal birth.

Rather natively, my DH thought "all of that would have come out with the baby"

Tearsfortiers · 06/12/2020 16:09

I bled for 11 weeks after my csection but only 5 after my VBAC.

AnneLovesGilbert · 06/12/2020 16:15

Between 3 and 4 weeks after CS.

propertyhell · 06/12/2020 16:21

I think 6 weeks is considered to be an average length of time. Mine really eased after a week but it did last about 4. I'm surprised you haven't been given any info re what bleeding is normal and what isn't.

rykar · 06/12/2020 16:25

Guess everyone is different as well...

Did many of you suffer with fluid on ur legs? I know im only 5 days in.. just feel like time is going so slow... lol

It’s not that naive. Depending on the surgeon and the method of placenta removal that is used it’s not unusual to have very little bleeding after a c-section.
Pinktruffle · 06/12/2020 17:10

My surgeon said she had removed a lot so I haven't had any clotting in my bleeding - I'm assuming that's why.

Tempusfudgeit · 06/12/2020 17:13

Six weeks for me, longer than my post-vaginal delivery bleeding.

rottiemum88 · 06/12/2020 17:14

About 5 days for me. I think it's really variable.

EmilySpinach · 06/12/2020 17:34

Regarding the fluid - you must wear the surgical stockings and make sure that you are doing your anticoagulant infections.

JumperooSue · 06/12/2020 18:10

5 days ago?! You need to lower your expectations of recovery, you’ve had major abdominal surgery. I bled for about 4 weeks, it slowed right down but then picked up again once I was more mobile. You’re going to be swollen and sore for a little while, just relax and rest and enjoy your new baby snuggled in bed or on the sofa😊

If it changes or gets worse, please go back in and get them to scan you.

I had to push for 6 weeks to be scanned whilst they had given me 3 lots of antibiotics during that time, and I had retained placenta. I ended up getting a taxi to hospital 🤷🏼‍♀️ I didn't want to be driven, I was delirious, I could only repeat my name over and over and my temp was 42c. I was septic and had to stay in hospital for 4 nights with introveiness antibiotics. They took me in within an hour to have a D&C in theatre after scanning me.

Also, to clarify, bleeding is very different when having a c section and natural birth as they suck quite a lot out when they stitch you up.
