Private scan

From my LMP im 6 weeks. I lost a pregnancy in August 2019 around 7 weeks which has stopped at 5w4.

I'm very paranoid about all my aches and pains and now my 'symptoms' seem to have disappeared apart from a dull ache in boobs.

I'm thinking about booking an early private scan for reassurance but its a lot of money to just do.....when roughly do you think I should book this for if we were to do it?

Thank you 😊

Hi OP,

Firstly congratulations Smile and sorry to hear of your previous loss.

This is my first time being pregnant, I'm 11 weeks today. I had a private scan at 8 weeks and it put my mind at rest a lot seeing the babies heartbeat. (I suffer with severe anxiety) so although I still get nervous, which I'm sure everybody does, it did reassure me a lot and I'd recommend an early scan just to put your mind at rest.

My symptoms completely disappeared too which is why I booked my private scan but everything looked fine. If you're concerned then I would definitely go for it.

Good luck x

Currently with baby no 2 i had issues at the start bleeding, pains, cramping and loss of symptoms! Was sure it was a miscarriage. Went for an early scan at a private clinic and everything was grand. And of course as soon as i found out everything was good i suffered every symptom in the book. The body and mind plays weird tricks, get checked out. If you can afford a scan book it either way it will be better knowing. Good Luck!

If you're going to do it, absolutely no earlier than 8 weeks. You'll only cause yourself extra anxiety.

@FirstTimeScared same here, I went for a scan when I was 8 weeks pregnant. (Ive checked with my doctor and he said to go no earlier than 8 weeks) I had a missed miscarriage in Feb this year and I am very anxious about this pregnancy. I am currently 18 weeks. I listen to some positive pregnancy affirmations on YouTube it really helps me to relax a bit. Good luck x

I'd agree with other posters - no earlier than 7 weeks x

I’ve had private scans in all my pregnancies due to anxiety.
Of course anything can happen at any time but for me they do give me some relief. Earliest I’ve had is 7+4, then 8+2 and 10+1. I would say try to wait until 8 weeks xx

Agreed, no sooner than 8 weeks as no heartbeat before then is perfectly normal and could cause unnecessary worry.

I've only had amazing experiences with private scans, worth every penny for me. The NHS 12 week scan was very rushed and they didn't show or tell me anything other than "looks fine", which is it's purpose of course, not there to entertain me.

I went to window to the womb at 8 weeks and again at 16, it was amazing they scanned me for 10+ mins showed me everything and I saw him wave and kick around, my husband could hold my hand and see the whole thing sat right next to me. Photos and videos to take home. I love them!

I think if you’ve had a mc previously you can ask Your EPU and get a scan for free on the NHS. If you just explain to them why you’re worried I’m sure they will fit you in, but agree with others that you would be best to wait for 8 weeks. Xx

Thank you all. Symptoms have come back slightly today, trying to do some Xmas shopping and im not feeling good (nausea). I'm contacting gp/midwife Monday, but I think we will hold out to at least 8 weeks as advised by many. Thank you all xx
