Hi all,
First time poster so unsure on how this all works but I just wanted to ask you all if anyone has ever dated their pregnancy based off LMP and went to an early reassurance scan and your dates don’t match up? I should be 7 weeks + 1 day based off my LMP but got dated at the scan at only 5 weeks? 5 weeks ago today would’ve been my ovulation week which I was also sexually active on, I was expecting my period on the 13th November as my LMP was 13th October but it didnt show so I tested on the 16th of November and I got a postive result, my midwife said I could of got my dates mixed up or the baby has stopped growing, can anyone provide me any insight on whether I could of got my dates so wrong or if it’s looking towards more of a miscarriage? Sad Thankyou all!

@CaitlinMarie
99% of the time your own calculations never match the scan's calculations.
My workings were 3 weeks ahead of my scan dates!

The scan sounds right to me. You arent meant to count the first 2 weeks (2ww). Technically were all pregnant for 9.5 months.

Thanks for your answers! I feel much better, so am I right in thinking I could well be 5 weeks along and my baby will be okay?
Thanks again Smile

When did you have the scan?

If you got a positive test on the 16th, I assume that means you would be at least 10 days post ovulation at that point. Which would mean ovulating on the 6th. Using the way they calculate it and adding two weeks to that, that would mean you could be about 10 days behind your own dates if you ovulated that much later. Does that sound right? So if you thought you should be 7 weeks, the scan would put you at 5 + 4 approx.

So basically it could be either OP, I know this bit is agonising, I miscarried before, but unless you were tracking your temperatures and know 100% when you ovulated (and even then I'm pretty sure I've interpreted that wrongly) all you can do is wait and see. Fingers crossed it was just a late ovulation and an early test. It certainly sounds possible from what you've said.

My dates are the exact same as yours, same LMP etc and I'm 7wk1 today, this was confirmed with a scan on Tuesday.

Are they bringing you back for another scan?

CaitlinMarie · 03/12/2020 12:36

@tyrannosaurustrip I had the scan yesterday, I got a positive result on the 16th November as I was 3 days late to my period and it came up positive, it makes sense yeah, I don’t 100% know when I ovulated I just track my periods and it estimates my ovulation day and week and I noticed on that week I had discharge (tmi) that resembled what would be described when you ovulate so I figured that I was ovulating, I have read about it taking longer to implant and that can make the dates differ but I’m unsure at this point, thanks for the reply!

@PutOnAHappyFace Oh really? Maybe it has stopped growing then like she said was a possibility, but yeah I’m getting rescanned in two weeks time

I just tried to figure your dates out and tbh there is every chance you ovulated late and got an early positive. Don't give up hope yet.

CaitlinMarie · 03/12/2020 12:43

I’ll try to remain hopeful, thankyou!Smile

@PutOnAHappyFace if I was to have ovulated later as suggested, would I have still of received the positive result on the test at the time I did? As when I tested positive I had a week indicator on the test and that suggested I was 2-3 weeks pregnant translating to 4-5 weeks in doctors eyes and that was 2 weeks ago, I asked my midwife and she said they’re a scam and a waste of money and assured me every pregnancy differs

I don't want to give you false hope but I'm also not a medical expert but it does sound a bit of a stretch to of been just 3weeks pregnant and get 2/3weeks on clear blue. I don't think it looks good.

I've had 4 miscarriages, I completely understand the frustration of the waiting now to see what's happening. I hope I'm proved wrong.
