8 week scan measurements

I’m 8 weeks pregnant after having a MMC in March this year. We had a private scan about 10 days ago and was measured at 7+3. Today I had some bleeding (almost to the day I started bleeding last time so was expecting the worst).

Anyway local EPU were able to offer a scan right away. They said everything looks fine which is great but they only measured at 8.1 whereas by my last period date I should be 8.5 or 8.6 by the last scan.

They did say the scan they do isn’t used for dating and didn’t measure heartbeat but said it looked strong. They said there wasn’t any cause for concern but to keep an eye on the bleeding and get back in touch with them if it gets worse. I’m just not sure how reassured I should be.

Early scans are quite often not accurate, as they’re so tiny it’s easy for measurements to be our. Try not to worry too much

It's really hard to date an early pregnancy. At one scan I measured 6 weeks, and 7 days later at another scan I had leapt to 8 weeks. The important thing is that you've seen a heartbeat. It's really hard, but try to be reassured by that.
