I think I’m miscarrying

I went to a&e yesterday because I was heavily bleeding, passing huge clots and having abdominal pains. A nurse looked at the clot I took with me and just said it was normal tissue and not from baby... anyway I got referred to gynaecologist who took my bloods and did an internal examination. The doc said that my cervix was closed but there was tissue there 🤷🏻‍♀️ Said my belly was soft (which is good) and that my hcg level were over 3000. He said anything over 1500 is good. They wouldn’t send me for an emergency scan so instead I have to wait untill Friday to see if I have miss carried or not . 😭 I’m hoping for the best news obviously but has anyone had anything like this before and still baby was fine?

I'm sorry you're having to go through this. I haven't experienced this myself but have ready many accounts where women bleed heavily and the baby is ok. Sometimes it's a twin that they lose.
I can't understand why the doctors think the better option is to let you wait till Friday for a scan. It's just cruel to do that to someone.

I really hope the next few days go by quickly for you and that you continue with a healthy pregnancy and baby xx

I cannot believe that they are refusing to scan you. That is so awful. I had very heavy bleeding and passing huge clots at 9+4 (about 3 weeks ago). I was certain I was miscarrying but they did a scan and the baby was fine. They still don't know what caused the bleeding. Can you get a private scan? I really hope everything works out for you. Sending lots of love.

Carrie92827 · 01/12/2020 10:47

Thankyou fingers crossed... I keep getting told it’s quite common to bleed in the first trimester but there was no I wasn’t miscarrying with what I went through . It was just awful x

Hi I don't often leave comments on here but I didn't want to read and run. I have been in this position I was 11 weeks 4 days, I like you had to wait which is the most nerve wrecking time, everything turned out to be just fine with the baby he's now a gorgeous 10 year old boy. I had really heavy bleeding and clots and this carried on all the way through my pregnancy although the bleeding did slow down a little the doctors and midwife couldn't explain why it was happening it just was. I'm sending a big hand hold and wishing you the best of luck. Xx

Carrie92827 · 01/12/2020 10:49

I thought it was horrible just sending me away to worry even more 😢 I’d rather not pay for a private scan if all there gunna tell me that Iv lost the baby.. I hope baby is safe n doing ok I just know it’s not gunna be the outcome I want xx

So have they said they will scan on Friday?

Carrie92827 · 01/12/2020 10:51

Myboysaremylife

I’m really hoping everything is ok ... I had a scan on the 20th because I started spotting and baby was fine then but it’s just gotten worse as the days went on 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

@Carrie92827
I am sorry you are going through this.
I know of many people with heavy bleeds who went on to have healthy pregnancies.

I am just a bit surprised they wouldn't scan you at 9+ weeks and that the doctor said anything over 1500 is good for this gestational age.
Almost sounds like they didn't realise how far along you are? Very odd.

Carrie92827 · 01/12/2020 10:52

Yes scan is on friday

@SunnySideUp2020
I know that’s what I thought. I don’t think he knew what he was going on about tbh

Maybe they just think that waiting til Friday for a prebooked scan is suitable. It's not great, as you will be on edge for 5 days, but had you not had a prebooked scan in they likely would have scheduled one for a couple of days time as a precaution due to the bleeding.

Carrie92827 · 01/12/2020 11:00

@BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz
I have no idea but I’m still bleeding and passing clots. I’m not gonna go back to hospital just to be sent away again.. Iv been up 3 times now. I see my midwife today to do some bloods so I’ll speak to her about it

I'd call your healthboards early pregnancy unit (EPU) or early pregnancy assessment service (EPAS - same thing but healthboards call them different stuff). They might want to scan you even though A and E wouldnt. And unlike private it would be free, youd get follow up care you needed, and they have expertise

Myboysaremylife · 01/12/2020 11:02

That's how mine started just spotting then went really heavy I had convinced myself I was having a miscarriage. Its so scary and waiting is the hardest part. They don't tend to send you for emergency scans if everything else is looking good, bloods, cervix ect... It happened again when I had my second child and again I bled all the way through but baby was fine. 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻 For you xx

TheDaydreamBelievers · 01/12/2020 11:02

The midwife usually gives you a number for EPAS/EPU at the 9-10 week appt so hopefully she can help

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 01/12/2020 11:02

Yeah I'd try the EPAU rather than A&E.

@Myboysaremylife did you have any pains ???

OP posts:
Myboysaremylife · 01/12/2020 11:32

I did it was just light aching and a little bit of cramping that is another reason I thought I had miscarried. X

Carrie92827 · 01/12/2020 12:24

@Myboysaremylife
My pains have been horrid like contraction pains but doctor said if I was contracting my cervix would of been opening but he said it was closed

OP posts:
anniebu · 01/12/2020 12:38

If your hcg is around 3000 at 9 weeks this is sadly a sign of a non viable pregnancy at this gestation. However you said the doctor said it was "over 3000". So maybe it was much more? Was there a specific number?

Carrie92827 · 01/12/2020 17:42

@anniebu
Yep it’s 3340

OP posts:
anniebu · 01/12/2020 18:12

I really think you shouldn't wait until Friday to get a scan.

Carrie92827 · 01/12/2020 18:26

@anniebu

I already know Iv lost it which is absolutely heartbreaking and the scan will just confirm it. I’m gutted for my partner tho as he still has hope
