Hi everyone, so I'm 40 weeks today! (Happy due date to me), and have been having braxton hicks for weeks! A few days ago I started getting painful, periody pains with the Braxton hicks, no pattern, I'd have them every 10 mins, then 8 then 20! And they wernt gaining in intensity. Then I didnt have many for a few days...

Fast forward to yesterday evening around 5:30, i started getting them again, slightly stronger and every 10 mins, rang the assessment number around 10 pm and the midwife told me the usual, have a bath and paracetamol etc go to bed, and ring us when they're 3 mins apart!

However my bath and paracetamol barely touched the pains. And I was still having them every 10 mins ish when I woke up this morning, since getting up and having some breakfast and turning all the lights on they have vanished!

I wondered if anybody could shed some light on this?

I should mention that this is my first baby, also my rainbow baby (last pregnancy ended in missed miscarriage) and a high risk pregnancy due to family history and my own medical conditions. So ever so slightly anxious!

In exactly the same position! They got to 5 mins apart & was about it to go in but then they start to get further apart again 😩😩 so frustrating haven't slept for 2 days

Could be a long slog. Get as much rest as you're able and keep eating!!!

I didn't sleep for about four days in the lead up to and just after the birth of my daughter, in part due to constantly thinking 'things are imminent' (and in part due to the pain keeping me up). Big mistake. Things weren't imminent.

By the end I needed assisted delivery just because I was far too knackered.

@Andilees93 how weird I had a growth scan yesterday too! I mentioned about having contractions & that I thought my mucus plug had gone but she didn't really comment on it so I guess it's completely separate to what she's looking for.
Midwife appt today & booked in for a sweep so should get some answers 🤞🏼

Andilees93 · 01/12/2020 08:10

@lucyFTM aww really? Aww fingers crossed for you, hope it progresses soon! I have a midwife tomorrow and a doctors on Thursday, must be standard procedure for this time x

This happened to me! Quite regular pains, had some paracetamol and went for a nap incase this “was it” then woke up and nothing. Took another 6 hours for them to come back and be regular, I did loose mucus plug inbetween and I was 7cm by the time I got to labour ward, baby was here 2 hours later! Sending good labour vibes your way!

Definitely go for a walk and I’ve heard but not tried about walking up and down the stairs in a certain way

So I came on Mumsnet to see if anyone had been in a similar situation to me and here you are 🤣 currently 37+5 and at 2am this morning I had period pain cramping. It was pretty intense and I just knew it wasn't braxton hicks. I've downloaded the Freya Surge Timer app and they're currently 10-15 minutes apart. I took paracetamol when they first kicked in and woke up at 7am (admittedly a broken sleep since the contractions started) and just took some more. When I first woke up I didn't really have any contractions for an hour? Now they're starting to ramp up again 🙈 I'm being induced on Saturday but have a feeling she could be here before then! I'm also first time mum so I'm not really sure what I'm doing but my body seems to be in control so just going with the flow ✌🏻🤣 keep us up to date OP x

@Handsoffstrikesagain I'm not high risk, just having a big baby 🙈 she was measuring 8lbs 4oz at 36 weeks so they gave me the option of c section or induction. I've not got GD, it runs in my husbands family to produce big babies 🙈 do you think I should call my midwife or labour ward at the hospital? I was going to wait til my contractions were closer together as I've read this stage can last days? X
