12 week scan possible heart defect

Hi all

Today I had my 12 week scan. Baby is happy and healthy apart from one thing. Abnormal flow on the right valves of the heart.

Has anyone experienced this?

At my anomaly scan I will be seen by a cardio specialist. The dr today me not to worry too much and there is a good chance it may have resolved itself by then. Of course I am a bit worried though!

I was at the fetal institute in London so it is a very thorough scan.

Thank you x

My second had a heart defect detected at 20 week scan. Because I refused tests (amniocentesis) we had to have regular scans, he had a vsd. When scanned at 3 months old it was still there but his 3 year scan showed it had closed.

I think it all depends on what sort of defect it is. Wishing you all the best.

Thank you for sharing that and glad you've had a positive outcome ❤️ I suppose I will have to wait until the scan end of January where they will be able to see more, feels a long wait. Thanks for replying xx

@raspberryjamlove yeah i can imagine how far away jan feels for you. Hopefully its not that bad. My son was fine, he had no problems associated with his heart defect and carried on like a 'normal' child. I'm sure at your next scan they will tell you if its gone or what to expect if it hasn't and what sort of defect it is. Keep thinking positive.

I haven't experienced this but I was told at my 12 week scan that there was a potential heart valve problem, although the baby was still too small for the consultant to see anything clearly. I have to go back at 16 weeks to get it looked at properly.

I know it's difficult but please try and keep yourself busy and don't worry about it until you know more. There is nothing you can do about it and for all you know the problem could resolve itself.

@StaceImpactWfan thank you and that is so great to hear. I suppose my mind just jus more to the worst possible scenario but feeling more positive today xx

@Trinpy oh no how long until the scan? Fingers crossed for a positive outcome for you and baby 👶🏼 Thank you I'm feeling a bit more positive about it today and like you say can only wait and see xx

@raspberryjamlove only 6 days to go now until my scan - it's been the longest wait ever though so I know exactly how you feel!

I'm glad you're feeling better about it now. It's the shock that is the worst. Everything I've read says that congenital cardiac problems can usually be treated if they don't resolve by themselves. I know there are a couple of children in my dcs class at school that were born with heart problems and they are absolutely fine now.

Thanks @Trinpy my toddler has kept me so busy this week I haven't had much time to think about it which is probably for the best!

Good luck at your scan, is it Monday? Hope everything is positive xx
