Cervical stitch: anyone had before/due one?

I've been told I will likely need a stitch when I'm a little further along (I'm just under 8w atm)
Has anyone experienced this? I try not to think of it but I'm very anxious about this whole pg (#3.... was never this angst with the previous 2 😣) and this seems like another thing to panic about.

The only other I person I vaguely know who had one ended up having baby at 29w due to the stitch failing.

Any experiences welcome (as in I'd rather know all outcomes than just the good!) thank you xx

Hi @3scompany I had a stitch put in when I was 13+5 weeks. My history was I had my first baby at 28+1 due to undiagnosed incompetent cervix, we got unlucky with him and he has ended up with long term health issues.
So this time after doing a lot of research I had a plan of action in my head and made sure it happened, so I'm on progesterone and have the stitch and are 20+1 at the min, I'm off work ( normally at theatre nurse) so on light duty's at home, eg sofa surfing, no lifting no sex no baths no long walks.
Sandy care for ic varies wildly between hospitals check out a fb group incompetent cervix uk pregnancy related

Can I also also why they want to give u a stitch? Have u had a Prem term/ prom or surgery on ur cervix ? Xx

Also on the stitch side it's far better to get it done as a preventive as far high success rate than if done as an emergency. Normally done under spinal takes less than an hour and normally only have to stay in one night and can be a wee bit sore for 1-2 weeks after

Sorry for the long post but hope it helps

Thank you so much for your reply.

Of course I don't mind you asking: I had 3 lletz in short succession following a high grade cin-3 diagnoses from a smear.

I'm having a scan to measure my cervix in jan (I'll be just over 13 weeks: do you think they'll arrange it then if I need one? And it'll be quite soon after?) I'm also anxious if they say I don't need it that I'll worry "what if they've missed something" and I'm left with a weak cervix as my pregnancy continues.

I'm just such a mess this pregnancy. 😔

Thank you for your reply. It was really helpful xxx

I'm sorry to hear what uve had to go though. So sadly it can change from hospital to hospital, but go prepared, these are the nice guidelines that's all hospitals have to follow

www.nice.org.uk/guidance/ng25/chapter/recommendations
If they agree to put a stitch in they normally do them pretty quickly. I saw consultant at 10+5 measured 2.6cm had dating scan at 12+1 saw consultant at 12+5 had stitch a week later at 13+5
They should do an ultrasound and measure your cervix anything below 2.5cm is worrying and would def need a stitch. If ur not measuring short at 13 weeks (sometimes you won't until 16 weeks as baby get bigger) they may offer a watch and wait approach, if ur not happy with that then tell them and push for a stitch, if they still won't change hospitals there are some ic specialist that you can self refer to who are brill, two in London one Leeds I think xx
