Bleeding 20 weeks pregnant

I'm 20 weeks pregnant and I've had some brown discharge on and off for a month or so. This morning I've had a small fresh bleed and some cramping. So after a mild panic and a call to the hospital I went in. Scan was fine, internal examination was fine, took. Swab and a urine sample to test and sent me on my way!

So my question is has anyone else had this? You're always told that cramps and bleeding were panic signals but after being told I'm fine I feel a bit silly for reacting like this. Any advice or similar stories/outcomes will be appreciated! Thanks

I had a small bleed at 20 weeks (he's 2 in a few weeks X) but do get checked out if you have any more worries but

I had serious hemorrhaging throughout my first pregnancy. I was on bed rest from about 16 weeks. It was extremely stressful but my child is now almost three and perfect.

Mine was due to a Subchorionic hemorrhage.

I had one small bleed with my second child and it was nothing to worry about at all.

If you’re worried keep on pushing for scans etc.

I had a bleed at 23 weeks and was monitored overnight in hospital (no scan).
I later found out that I should have been consultant led not midwife led after this but an oversight meant I was discharged back to the midwife.
Anyway to cut a long story short the bleed was an indication of problems with my baby's placenta. I ended up with an Emcs and DS was smaller than average due to placental insufficiency.
I'm not for a minute saying that this is the cause of your bleeding or that bleeding is always a sign of problems but I do wish I had been monitored more closely in the run up to the birth. Basically if you have any niggles after this get them thoroughly checked out.
DS is 8 now and although he has a long term medical condition, we don't know if it has anything to do with the pregnancy/birth and he's basically healthy and well which is the main thing.

Thanks all for your advice! It's really annoying as it keeps presenting as old/brown discharge but this morning with the blood being fresh/red I was brought in. I only got a scan because they couldn't find the heartbeat with the Doppler, I think I'll need to keep a log on it to see what's happening/frequency and just keep ringing the hospital when it happens!
Throughout pregnancy you're told that bleeding of any type is a reason to ring your midwife/hospital but when you get there you feel a bit daft and you're wasting people's time!
It's nice to hear that even with the bleeding you've all got beautiful children which really settles my mind. Thanks for your advice!

I’m currently 14 weeks and had 4 episodes brown spotting - no reason behind it!! My friend is 36 weeks and had a bright red bleed last week & it was cervical erosion which is apparently common but she hadn’t ever had it before! Hope you’re okay xx

Like @Ayupmeduck my son was also born smaller than average. He weighed just 4lb 6oz.

I went in to early labour and he was born at 36 weeks. This was due to the bleeding and the placenta not working properly.

If the red bleeding keeps happening push hard for consultant led care and extra scans.

This isn't intended to scare you but don't let them fob you off.

Sending Thanks

You're right I'll deffo keep pushing for investigation if it continues to happen. Have some mild cramping now but probably just the speculum/swab they did today! Thanks for all the advice guys!

Not sure if it's reassuring at all but I'm in a similar situation - 21 weeks and had a bleed a fortnight ago. Also felt a bit silly going in because it was just a bit of spotting. When they did an internal there was definitely bleeding and was reassured by the doctor I did the right thing.

Everything looked good at my 20 week scan a couple of days ago so I just keep telling myself it's just one of those things that can happen and will keep an eye on it.

Obviously bleeding is a (literal) red flag but it's really common!

I had a light bleed (fresh blood) around 30 odd weeks last time and it was done to BV. Started on a week course of antibiotics and that was me. Glad everything checked out ok!

I'm pregnant again btw and had a tiny tiny bleed a few weeks ago (18weeks?) I went in to get checked out and it was all fine -but they said to go straight back I'd it happens again so don't feel like you are wasting anyone's time
