I'm being admitted for HG

What can I expect? Nervous of being g alone but praying they make me feel better. What will happen to me?

They’ll probably put you on a drip and anti sickness drugs. I felt so much better and was eating within an hour; hope the same is true for you x

I was put on a drip of fluids, vitamins and anti sickness meds. They then gave me a prescription of two different tablets to keep on top of it at home.

I managed to eat a biscuit and drank a glass of water before I left - which made me feel so much better. I hadn't kept anything down for days.

I felt sooo much better after going in and finally got on top of it so that the tablets stayed down and I could eat.

They will put you on a drip and give you anti sickness meds. It made me feel so much better and it was the best I had felt in weeks. Then got given medication to take at home and I could eat again.

I was in for 3 days on a drip and given anti sickness meds after. It was literally the best thing to happen, it nipped my sickness in the bud and I felt sooooo much better. I think a large part of mine was due to dehydration too! I hope you start to feel better soon :)

I wasn't admitted (got v close tho) but I know they can give you an injection when you are. It was the turning point for me. Before they had given me pills but taking those pills was all but impossible and keeping them down doubly so. The injection allowed me to eat a little bit and that in turn meant I could continue with tablets and eating enough to stave off the worst of the sickness. Hopefully it will be a similar reset for you. Feel better soon x

I've been admitted twice now. Second time in particular seems to have sorted me right out. (Was discharged with steroids after nothing else worked)
They'll hook you up to fluids, probably about 2 or 3 bag fulls, and inject you with anti sickness if they haven't already. Gynae doctors will probably see you and ask about your fluid intake/food etc. Try to use this time to get rehydrated and start to eat. I hadn't had a wee for three days by the time I was in the second time.
Make sure you get discharged with stuff you know works and you can keep on top of. I was still being sick so was given liquid ones and dispersible tablets.
They'll want to do a urine test if you haven't already done one to check for ketones and infection.
There's a great support thread on here for HG sufferers that really helped me when I was in hospital.

You’ll probably feel better. IV fluids, IV/injected anti emetics (so they have chance to work before you throw them up) it’s actually not too bad.

You never know you might get some dinner if they get a wriggle on! X

I've been admitted four times this pregnancy for HG (currently 10+4). Each time I've had IV fluids and anti sickness meds - I found they helped more through IV as was vomiting up the tablets so not getting a chance to be absorbed. Even just being hydrated makes a lot of difference. I wasn't a huge fan of the trippy cyclizine feeling when injected straight in but it did knock me out for a few hours each time which gave some relief! Worked enough with the ondansetron that I could eat bits and pieces before discharge. I hope it makes you feel better and hope they prescribe you some meds to take home to manage it. Ask about thiamine supplements too.

Sorry to you all for experiencing this. It's truly awful, I was allowed home last night after 2 bags of fluid and 2 different anti sickness injections (my bottom is still sore). They changed the concoction of tablets I'm on and I've managed to keep food and fluid down since being home. Fingers crossed that's the last time I will be in with that.
When did most of you find that it passed? And you didnt need all the drugs?

@Blissfulignorance in my first pregnancy my HG cleared up completely by 17 weeks and I was able to enjoy the rest of my pregnancy. It got better over the course of about a week from 16 weeks onwards.
Too early to tell for this pregnancy, but I think I'm around the peak at the moment so hoping for something similar!! Its my positive light at the end of the tunnel.

Even if you don't find that it clears up completely, you should find that it subsides a bit. My gynae doc said the hormones level off after 16 weeks which would explain why I felt better around that time last pregnancy.

Labour was the best I felt the entire pregnancy.
It did ‘ease’ a bit around 30 weeks but only to be replaced by acid reflux and AWFUL gas (literally couldn’t even lean back 10 degrees in bed at night without the gas becoming trapped and making me vomit). Felt like every single breath was a gigantic burp. Used to leave me light headed as couldn’t breath properly.

Currently pregnant with number 2 (it’s not as bad so far) but I swear I’ll never do it again. Ever. Almost chickened out this time but just couldn’t see us without a second.

When you’re not living it, 9 months feels like a really short time in return for a whole person. When you are living it, it feels like FOREVER!!!

I have heard lots of ‘it cleared up at 16-20 weeks’ stories though so certainly does happen! I hope you’re one of those! Xx
