UTIs

I've had a UTI since the beginning of my pregnancy, now 14 weeks. I'm on my 5th course of antibiotics, and if this doesn't work they'll send me to the urologist.

I'm worried about both the infection itself, and being pumped with antibiotics.

Does anyone have any experience of this? I don't know what I'm expecting people to say, really. Just having a bit of a stress.

Hey, I've no real advice but I'm in a similar boat to you, just a bit earlier on. I'm 7+6 weeks tomorrow and have already had 2 different courses of antibiotics for a UTI. I think the latest course has kept it at bay but I don't think it's fully gone, when I was TTC for 5 months I pretty much needed antibiotics every month after the ovulation period. Now I'm pregnant the main reason I'm scared to have sex with DH is for fear of getting another UTI!

I asked my GP if taking endless antibiotics is an issue. She said that obviously she'd rather not have to put me on them, but that it's much preferable than to have a UTI that may worsen and become a severe kidney infection which could be harmful. Apparently the risk to the baby is minimal as long as you're on antibiotics that are deemed safe in pregnancy.

I really feel your pain though, I effing hate UTIs with a passion!

Thanks for replying! I think I MIGHT be a tiny bit better, currently on 10 days of cefuroxime. I've just got this constant niggling stress that so many antibiotics can't be good... Hope yours clears up sooner!

Hi! I had exactly the exactly the same and had a UTI from 8dpo to 13 weeks and had 4 rounds of antibiotics. It did finally go and now I'm 18 weeks and it hasn't come back. On the last round of antibiotics I also drank so much water, literally tried to flush it out my system and that seemed to so the trick.

I really feel for you because the infection is exhausting and the constant ache in my tummy really got me down. I hope this final course will get rid of it for good for you. Definitely try upping your water though!
