I'm 38 weeks pregnant and in the last couple of days I've had a constant achey pain in my lower abdomen, it feels exactly like how I get period pains and im wondering is this the start of labour?

I wouldn't say they are contractions because the ache is constantly there and no gap in between, but they are fairly painful. I've always been feeling grumpy and tired and just a bit meh. Sorry if TMI but I had some quite thick discharge today as well.

Did anyone experience this before going into labour and how long was it until you went into full labour after getting pains?

@Gabriella93 I’m also 38wks and saw midwife today and mentioned that I get aching at the bottom of my bum and she said it’s totally normal at this stage and is a good sign as means baby is pressing down and your body gearing up. She said doesn’t mean your in labour but definitely a good sign.

I had what you’re describing on and off for about two weeks before going into labour

I'd say at this stage, it's normal achyness/grumpiness, I've got 3 dc. It sucks cos at this point you just want them out and to meet them finally

Ohh okay maybe I've still got a couple of weeks then! I am getting impatient but hoping the pains mean he won't be too over due and my body is getting ready! The pains are quite bad this evening but I still wouldn't say there is a gap in-between them xx

Hi, I personally think the discharge is a good sign and it might means the start of your labor x
To be more specific I found this : During pregnancy, there's a plug of mucus in your cervix. This plug comes away just before labour starts, or when in early labour, and you may pass it out of your vagina. This small amount of sticky, jelly-like pink mucus is called a show. It may come away in one blob or in several pieces. (Sorry a bit gross Grin )
Mine was inducted after my water broke and nothing happened for a day Hmm
Good luck, keep us updated x Smile
