Hey ladies I have a scan booked tomorrow when I will be 8 + 4 I'm so so nervous and worried about it, my husband is counting down the hours but I can't seem to look forward, I'm so panicked something is going to be wrong, so just wondering peoples experiences? how long did it take from going in to finding heartbeat? Do you have to wait ages? Xxxx

I was always anxious before scans. Thankfully they find the heartbeat relatively quickly but it still feels like an age! I found it never got easier even with multiple scans, for medical reasons. From my experience they turn the screen away when you go in to find the heartbeat and turn it around when they do.

Heya the heartbeat should be visible pretty instantaneously as soon as the sac and baby is visible on the screen as the movement is pretty obvious in what is an otherwise "still" area? Sometimes in can take a few seconds for them to click the area they need to focus on to capture the sound abs then they usually turn the machine on and you should be able to hear it abs the machine will tell you the BPM

Also look out for when they do the measurements as the Computer will also estimate the "age/gestation" which can also put your mind at rest

At that gestation it should be quite easy - as pp said, it's movement on a screen so they should notice it relatively quickly if they're pointed in the right way. Baby is still quite small at that gestation but will be starting to look a little less like a bean and a bit more like a baby!

It should be visible to sonographer immediately. I have been on the side at 8+5 when there was no heartbeat and also having a positive early experience with my now daughter.

Hi OP, I had a scan today at exactly 8 weeks (NHS rather than private due to some early bleeding). They found the heartbeat pretty much instantly, and showed me the baby from lots of angles - it was amazing. Obviously at this stage it’s still growing lots of key organs and limbs, but the doctor helped show me what was what. It was amazing to see its little heart beating so fast on the screen and I already can’t wait to see how much its grown by my 12 week scan.
Good luck for yours - even though it’s so hard not to worry, each day/week is a privilege to grow your baby and so I’m trying to enjoy the time they are safely tucked inside me rather than stressing about things beyond my control. Take care xx

Hey @AnxiousAnnie86 I had a reassurance scan last Thursday which put me at 7+4. I could see / hear a heartbeat almost instantly and it put my mind to rest as I have very few symptoms. I couldn’t make much out as far as the baby was concerned but this is expected so early on.

Good luck and keep us updated xx

AnxiousAnnie86 · 25/11/2020 19:14

@Vogue1992 thank you, I'm so pleased it went well for you, I think if I hear the heartbeat I will relax, I do have symptoms I have absolutely terrible sickness, literally am throwing up 4/5 times a day all day everyday. So I'm just hoping it's a good sign xx

From what I remember it didn't take long to find the heartbeat Smile

It's completely natural to be nervous so go easy on yourself today!

All the best of luck x
