Maternity coat

Can anyone recommend a good winter maternity coat? Requirements are something warm and waterproof. Ideally one with a panel designed for baby-wearing afterwards.

In my last pregnancy I managed without fine, but I was biggest during the summer and just borrowed a coat a size too big from my mum. But this time I am due in Spring so going to be at peak bump during the coldest months, and have a toddler so my main lockdown activities are walks and hanging around chilly parks!

I've seen some lovely coats on Mammalicious but they are rather pricey! Thanks for any help!

I got the seraphine baby wearing parka. It’s nice but was expensive and now baby is here I think a big down non-maternity coat plus the winter sling cover would have been just as good (I have an ergobaby and you can get winter covers for them).

George at Asda do some maternity coats that are reasonably priced.

villamariavintrapp · 24/11/2020 18:21

Have a look on eBay? People don't wear them very much so can get a good one much more reasonably second hand?

V1ckyCh1ck · 24/11/2020 18:24

I got my winter one from Gap. It was cheap enough not to worry about wearing it after but noice and comfy round my bump.

MsChatterbox · 24/11/2020 18:25

I would recommend zip us in... A panel you can attach to your normal coat.

Boringnamechanging · 24/11/2020 18:28

Mamalila not cheap but very good as babywearing as you can put the panel in the front or back.

Got mine from new look for £29.99 👍🏻

MorgenMuffel · 24/11/2020 19:22

Another vote for asda too - think they have some in the sale at the moment so a bargain!

Faster800 · 24/11/2020 19:23

Add 9.99 at the mo! Maternity parka get in quick!

Faster800 · 24/11/2020 19:24

That should say Asda sorry!

Luckystar1 · 24/11/2020 19:30

I have the Seraphine one. I really love it, as it can be worn as a normal coat afterwards. My only issue with it is that it’s not waterproof (which is fairly stupid tbh) but it’s warm and really handy now for baby wearing.

Briannaoftarth83 · 24/11/2020 19:31

Mine was from Seraphine and was/is amazing. It's a long padded parka with zips down each side (armpit to the bottom) which you unzip to reveal elasticated panels and then two panels at the front that are also elastic. Perfect for bump and I still wear it now! I zip the sides down to wear as a normal coat and unzip them when I've got baby in the carrier. Pricey but highly recommended.

I have been heavily pregnant three times in the winter months, once with twins. Never had a maternity coat, completely unnecessary gimmick.

Skyla01 · 24/11/2020 21:39

I got mine in asda, £20 in the sale. Very warm. Might be a bit tight by the time I'm due (currently 32 weeks) but for the price can't fault it.

Workingmama1 · 24/11/2020 21:42

I've reading struggled finding one. There are cheaper options like Asda but they arent waterproof! I live in the North West and walk my daughter to nursery and walk the dog so I need wind and waterproof.

I dithered then ordered two wombat ones to try from house of fraser as they had 20% off. To be honest they aren't great as maternity coats as they only have one panel and not a maternity specific one. Also, they don't have a proper hood to keep baby dry (but you can use for a back carry which is handy). I've just ordered a Mamalila softshell which is waterproof and has a hood. Still pricey but got a black fridays offer with 15% off. www.absolute-snow.co.uk/V/Mamalila_Softshell_Baby_Wearing_Maternity_JacketCoat_UK_14_Navy_Ice-(245020)

Ebay is a good shout for second hand, but I also used this to justify the high price of a new one as I'll probably sell on.

This one is waterproof and more reasonable, but I wanted one that allows a back carry too www.etsy.com/listing/551092724/3-in-1-warm-winter-maternity-baby

Roseability18 · 24/11/2020 21:56

Thanks for all the recommendations! I had a Zipusin for last baby for using the carrier but it doesn’t fit either of my good winter jackets (fat face zips not compatible!) and I found their ‘universal’ version just fell off!

I got mine in George at Asda and it's doing very well so far in keeping me warm, has a detachable panel for after birth so it can be worn as a normal coat too so very good value

Aworldofmyown · 24/11/2020 22:55

I had a Verbaudet one. You could wear it pregnant, with a sling and without. Loved it and it sold well after.

Roseability18 · 25/11/2020 19:23

Have ordered one from Asda, thanks all!
