Take away food during covid

Hi,

Just curious are people still eating out at takeaways whilst pregnant? I don't see anything wrong with the odd take away in pregnancy but just wondering if people are avoiding due to covid?

I’m not, second pregnancy I ate a lot of takeaways during my first as I hate cooking and DP is sometimes too tired after work to cook. I see it as no different to eating fresh food from the supermarket tbh in regards to covid. I like a takeaway as a treat, I’m low risk and not overweight.

Sexnotgender · 22/11/2020 12:58

I’m still eating them. I have maybe one a month. I try not to eat too many generally as not particularly healthy rather than Covid related.

I just quite fancy a McDonald's and was worried their was some secret rule where pregnant woman shouldn't be eating them during covid... just double checking Grin

Just don't have a McFlurry.

Enjoy!

I don't see why they are any different during pregnancy. If you fancy a takeaway, have one. I love them. We all deserve a treat sometimes.

MsSquiz · 22/11/2020 13:06

@Sexnotgender why no McFlurry?

Sexnotgender · 22/11/2020 13:09
@Sexnotgender why no McFlurry?
If the machine is clean it’s fine. There’s a risk of the machine isn’t cleaned properly so best avoided.

I think it’s listeria that’s the risk? You’re more susceptible to it in pregnancy.

MsSquiz · 22/11/2020 13:12

@Sexnotgender I was told that because they used pasteurised milk and have the machines cleaned through regularly, it's fine to have

Sexnotgender · 22/11/2020 13:14

It’s the cleaning regularly I’d be concerned about. If they’re thorough as I said it’s fine but I just don’t want to take the risk.

graciesmammy · 22/11/2020 13:18

I've changed my mind , I'm going to have a dominos instead for my tea Blush

OP posts:
Sexnotgender · 22/11/2020 13:27

Good choice. I had dominos a couple weeks ago and it was so good!

SpunBodgeSquarepants · 22/11/2020 13:30

I think I'd have starved without takeaways this pregnancy... I just haven't had the energy to cook meals 😂

Whywontitname · 22/11/2020 13:34

@Sexnotgender McDonald’s have to clean them every day with heat cleaning so they’re fine! I had a celebrations one this week (and am pregnant)

ThanksItHasPockets · 22/11/2020 13:57

I wouldn’t have a Mr Whippy from a van but McFlurry machines are kept very clean so minimal risk.

Mimiwish · 22/11/2020 14:56

My partner thinks I'm crazy but yes, we do get a takeaway once a week, BUT I always heat it up in the oven before we eat it (after throwing away the packaging, and making sure partner washes his hands really well). We only get food that is oven-friendly, for that reason (no salads, or McFlurries ;)). I know this would be overly cautious to some people but only a few weeks away from meeting baby, and I just can't relax about Covid risks, even when they're apparently low for food packaging/ contents.

elfran · 22/11/2020 17:22

We've been doing a lot of takeaways actually; not much fast food, but local restaurants on Deliveroo, or during the week we'll walk to somewhere nearby we love and get a sandwich for lunch, and a few local places are doing take-home multi-course meals that you book in advance and heat up yourself, which has been a nice treat every now and then.

I haven't even thought not to do it because of Covid, it's more been about keeping ourselves sane (we're both still wfh) and hoping that our favourite local spots are still in business after all this is over!

VeeVeeBee77 · 22/11/2020 21:48

We've been getting the occasional takeaway throughout pregnancy, a combination of home delivery and collecting in town, and it's been fine. I just make sure to wash my hands before dishing up/eating as I would any meal, Covid hasn't even really been an additional consideration

Mother2princess · 22/11/2020 22:20

Yes its fine i do im always tired after looking after my 4 under 5 daily so I get takeaway probably 2 weekly
