Low platelets and Birth centre

Hi All,

I was just wondering if anyone has had low platelets and was able to give birth at a birth centre. I am 33 weeks have had low platelets for the last 10 years probably although never any real issues except bruising.

My platelets have been around 50-70 this pregnancy, I have an appointment with the anthetist on Tuesday to discuss pain relief. I would ideally like to give birth in the midwife birth centre but not sure if I’ll be allowed. I know I can’t have an epidural or instrumental delivery but not sure what I CAN have so any experiences would be useful so I can prepare. Also how long did you have to stay in after the birth? Not sure whether to pack a little heavy in case baby has low platelets/ I bleed?

Thanks!

I ended up being induced to having low platelets. I had HELLP syndrome. They said If i went below 50 I would need an emergency section. I went to 52. I had to stay in for 4 nights afterwards having my bloods checked every 4 hours to keep an eye on them going back up. Cant help you on the birthing centre part as i was on the labour ward. Have they put you as high or low risk in your notes? X

Thanks for replying @Alfieb22 think I am high risk just because they are often around 50-70 but have been my whole pregnancy and (will have been before pregnancy). How did you find your induction, that’s what I’m most scared about because I know I can’t have an epidural, what pain relief were you able to have?
