Bad leg pain

I'm 26 weeks pregnant and woke up at 2am with a really bad pain in my lower left leg. It had the intensity of a leg cramp but the pain wasn't coming from the muscle, it seemed to be further inside the leg. It eased out after 10mins but was very weird. I had a problem with this leg during my last pregnancy - it was very swollen for the last three or four weeks of my pregnancy and I had a couple of scans as the docs thought it might be a clot but nothing showed up. Anyone experience anything similar?

I had problems with leg cramps during my pregnancies but if you don't think it is that then I would see your doctor.

If it is cramps i found that drinking a large glass of milk daily stopped them

my first instinct was that it may be a clot
i think you should speak to your GP ASAP

clot pain IME is similar to cramping but much more intense

i had the same and thought it was dvt - had a leg scan but it was nothing to worry about.

Hi Jennymac. Of course clots are the No 1 thing to watch out for with leg pain in pregnancy, but I think (having had one) that if it was a clot the pain would be there all the time, and would be worse on walking etc. Do keep an eye out for any swelling, but sounds like this is maybe just a different sort of cramp pain?

Lulumama · 18/10/2007 13:43

i second ruby's advice

i had a suspected clot whjen pregnant, turned out not to be a clot, but i had every symptom, calf pain, swollen painful calf, coudn;t bend my leg to walk properly... had a blood clotting issue when pregnant, and was given low dose aspirin

definitely get checked out

if it's cramp, for GOD'S SAKE don't point your toes -- flex your foot, so your toes curl up towards your knee

jennymac · 18/10/2007 13:51

Maybe it was just a strange kind of cramp, although I've had plenty of leg and foot cramps in the past and this was definitely different. I think if it was a clot however, that it would be sore all the time so I might leave it and see for a few days if anything else happens. I was just wondering if anyone had experienced anything similar.

I've had this too about three times - my midwife friend described as "like a key winding up the muscle tight in your leg" and I said YES. She said it may be dehydration. It was left leg too, at down left side below knee. I had to hold my leg still and not move my foot at all till it went away. Very ouchsome!
