Loss of Mucus Plug

I am new on here and have just been lurking for the past few days. My due date is tomorrow and as this is my 1st I am sure you can imagine how paranoid I am about EVERY little twinge or change from the norm!

This is probably a really silly question but since I am a paranoid confused first timer I hope you will all cut me some slack!

When you start to lose your mucus plug is it always "bloody" or pinkish? Is it possible it could look like normal discharge just much thicker?

Also is this something that you always notice as a first sign of labour or is it possible to start going into labour without having noticed it?

THe muscus plug (for me anyway) was like a spoonful of jelly, that sort of consistency. I did have blood in it, but it doens't always. You can lose your plug before being in labour, or like me quite far into labour. Sometimes you don't notice it at all.

it is usually a clump of snot like mucus, often blood stained..

you do get increased discharge in later pregnancy, but the show is often a big lump

means your cervix is starting to thin and dilate, so is a positive sign, labour could still be a few days away , so hard to predict

are you having any pains?

for it to look like thick discharge I think it would have to look like... when you blow your nose and it's a really thick yellowey gooey booger (sorry!).

Its definitley different to discharge... I had a BIG LUMP of hard jelly come away (actually reminded me of a raw scallop!) and this was a few weeks ago... and I am still pregnant!

I know it can mean Ive still got quite a while to wait I think Im just looking for ANY possible signs something is happening.

In answer to your question Lulamama I have been in constant agony since last Thursday night all at the base of my back round the bottom of my bump and into the tops of my legs as well of course as the feeling like my pelvis is about to be ripped in two!

Im getting to the stage where I am thoroughly fed up of not knowing whether I actually need to go to the toilet or whether it is just pressure as you may be able to tell I am just desperate for some sign things are progressing and it doesnt help that my MW must be the most unhelpful woman I have ever met!

I'm just glad I had a couple of stand ins when my MW was off for some reason otherwise I would be thinking they were all the same!!

Its not good tho when a stand in can in the space of a 15min appt give me more info re my pregnancy and baby than my regular MW has given me through out the whole thing. Somehow she always managed to make me feel about 1 inch tall and as if I was stupidest person ever!

It's so hard sometimes Claireykitten to understand what's gone wrong with communications.

During my years as a midwife I received thanks from so many ladies, sadly there were a few (very few) who were less pleased.

That they were unhappy upset me, but other midwives also had the occasional problems and I know that their care was exemplary.

I really feel that good and clear explanations go a long way to avoiding misunderstandings and misconceptions, unfortunately time is not always on our side.

mucus plug for me was same as everyone else. Mine came out during 20 mins contractions stage.
