When did you start to get stretch marks?

Just curious to know when they started to appear for people. In third trimester and managed to escape them so far but sure they’re only a matter of time away as I’ve been getting itching as the skin stretches. Know there’s no way of avoiding them if I’m predisposed to them and they’re just battle scars I’ll have to accept but just wondered what other people’s experiences were?

My due date. I was so smug up until 39+6 because I didn’t have a single mark. Then I woke up on my due date and there they were. Little bastards.

Hope you’re one of the lucky ones!!

Very suddenly at 36 weeks. Went to bed with good skin, woke up with stretch marks.

whoareyouIwonder · 19/11/2020 12:39

Never as they’re genetic

BurningBenches · 19/11/2020 12:40

Also my due date in my 1st pregnancy Sad

Ladybird345 · 19/11/2020 12:41

Didn't get any with my first baby but I got them with my second, didn't really notice them until baby was here though

firstimemamma · 19/11/2020 12:42

Never but it was my only pregnancy and I was in my twenties. Will almost certainly get them from a future pregnancy. I find it weird I didn't get them from my pregnancy as I have some on my hips from puberty so I'm obviously genetically conditioned to get them! Probably just luck.

Garman · 19/11/2020 12:42

Didn't get them during pregnancy, have two on my thighs from teenage growth spurt, that's it.

DappledOliveGroves · 19/11/2020 13:00

Got them by eight weeks pregnant - covered in them. I was so skinny when I got pregnant so assume it was the rapid weight gain.

Merename · 19/11/2020 13:02

I never got them in two pregnancies which surprised me as I gained loads of weight, it really does seem to be true it’s genetic. My skin did feel tight and itchy towards the end too.

jamie980 · 19/11/2020 13:22

Thanks everyone - interesting mix! Pretty sure I’ll be one of those who gets them the day baby turns up like a stripy welcome mat Grin. Was surprised not to have them already because I have a lot on my thighs from puberty but will have to wait and see...

I didn't get any, but I already have quite a few because I'm overweight 😂

Me too. Was sure I would, because of the teen ones, but nothing in any pregnancy. So it’s not a done deal, OP.

This! When I was transferred from the delivery suite and went for a shower I noticed them on my stomach. Went my whole pregnancy without any.
Caspianberg · 19/11/2020 13:35

Same as above, had a few on legs from teens. Nothing from pregnancy even though fairly slim to start with and gained 20kg. So doesn’t seem any logic

insomnmaniac · 19/11/2020 13:36

I had a massive bump during my pregnancy and put on so much weight too but didn't get any stretch marks. I was also very skinny when I fell pregnant . I've used anti stretch mark oils but not sure if that helped, but my mother never had any stretch marks either after 3 babies so it might be genetics.

Turtleturtle81 · 19/11/2020 13:45

I woke up with them this morning at 36 weeks. I thought I had gotten away with it! They are under my bump so difficult to see and maybe have been there before. I think they happened just as my bump started to drop and baby engaged. Thankfully they are not too noticeable at the moment.

Turtleturtle81 · 19/11/2020 13:47

Should add as well that I have used every stretch mark oils going since the day I found out I was pregnant. I don’t think there is a huge amount you can do to be honest. Maybe the oils have helped them not be as bad as they could have been, we’ll never know 🤷‍♀️

Sanch1 · 19/11/2020 13:55

I got a few after birth with both mine, now that's annoying!

RatherBeRiding · 19/11/2020 14:01

Never during 2 pregnancies. I think it's a mix of genetics and not having any sudden weight gain spurts during pregnancy - easier said than done. But I didn't gain any weight apart from the babies and it went on very, very steadily (half a pound a week max).

jamie980 · 19/11/2020 14:04

@Sanch1 AFTERWARDS? Now that is just cruel!

EithneBlue · 19/11/2020 14:20

39+5 and still not got any: my mum escaped them but I got them on my thighs as a teenager so thought I wouldn't be as lucky. Maybe though... fingers crossed!

SingingSands · 19/11/2020 14:52

Quite late on, can't really remember when. I went 2 weeks over with both and by the end the skin on my belly felt paper thin and as though it was on fire.

I could cope if they were low down, but they are around and above my belly button and it all rather depressingly resembles a deflated balloon... Sad

LBB2020 · 19/11/2020 15:11

First baby I got a couple of really tiny ones a few days after the birth, they were low down and not noticeable with my underwear on. Second baby those couple of tiny ones stretched up to just under my belly button at around 34 weeks 😩 I was gutted as thought I’d maybe get a couple more similar to the first time. I used oils and tummy butters from the start both times.

Milkshake7489 · 19/11/2020 15:12

I'm 28 weeks and have started getting them noticably on my stomach now.

I also got them at about 12 weeks on my boobs. To be fair, they did grow extremely quickly!

Honestly, I don't mind them. It's just one of those things Smile

20viona · 19/11/2020 15:18

Didn't get any
