Hello,

I've just had an emergency scan at 17 weeks + 4 days about some really severe tummy pain.
Although the scan revealed everything is fine, they did some measurements and i'm really worried about something i saw on the results:
At 15 weeks + 3 days, they noted nucheal translucy 1.7mm (it was 1.2mm at 11 weeks),
but yeterday's scan showed 3mm nuchal oedema.

Our next scan is in 3 weeks and this is my third pregnancy (we lost two babies), so you can imagine i am panicking now.

i haven't had the blood tests back yet and they said yesterday that the baby was gorwing fine and didn't say anything about the 3mm, but still, i am really worried.

Baby was facing down on both scans so we couldn't see anything there, which doesn't help.
Does anuone know what a normal measure would be at 17 weeks?

Phanie

If I remember right the measurement is only meaningful up to about 13 or 14 weeks which is why there's only a small window of opportunity to have the test done. Your measurement at 11 weeks is well within the normal range and I think that will be the most accurate. If they were concerned they would have said something but definitely call the scan department or you consultant if you're concerned.

I had a detailed scan at 18 weeks where they looked for markers for abnormalities and the nuchal fold was measured again. I don't know what it was, but the consultant did say that they expected it to be bigger than at 12 weeks - I assume simply because the baby is bigger. So, I would say that if it wasn't picked up on, it is absolutely fine and nothing to worry about.

Phaine, later measurement is perfectly normal (have just asked by midwife sister) for that time gestation (would still be in normal range if done at 12 weeks). Afetr 13 weeks NF measurements are pretty meaningless . Hope this helps.
