I’m 9 weeks and absolutely exhausted all the time. I go to work for a couple hours a day and come home desperately needing a nap. I go to bed around 9/10pm and wake up around 7/8am.
I wake up a couple of times through the night but generally manage to get back to sleep.

It’s really affecting my mood and work. Does this eventually relent, maybe in the second trimester?!

Also, any tips for headaches? I’m drinking loads of water (mainly when I’m home as even a few sips has me needing to pee!!) I don’t really want to have to take paracetamol everytime I have a sore head.

TIA

Oh god the sheer exhaustion of the first trimester.

I used to work 7am-3.30pm. I'd drive home, go straight to sleep til dh got in at 6. I'd be up til 8pm then straight back to bed and up at 6am.

In my case it eased for the second trimester.

Oriflamme · 18/11/2020 13:22

For me it eased for second trimester, returned late third trimester and has been an enduring feature for the 11 months DS has been with us 😆😆

Don't feel guilty though, OP - you’re growing a human being after all! it really takes it out of you. Best of luck.

HappyDaze90 · 18/11/2020 13:33

Thank you both for your replies. I knew come the third trimester I’d be exhausted but I didn’t expect it quite so much this early. I can barely think straight 🙈

I feel so bad for my partner having to deal with me at the moment as I know I’m being a nightmare but every inch of me feels completely done in 😴

The tiredness of the third trimester is mainly down to your increased size and any restrictions the bump will cause you (plus disturbances in sleep from baby moving or pressing on your bladder).

The tiredness of the first trimester is because baby is doing all their initial growing now - those cells doubling, additional hormones and, to put it frankly, baby is a parasite (for want of a better word) who is draining your resources to grow big and strong.

starsinyourpies · 18/11/2020 13:51

I'm much less exhausted in third trimester than I was at your stage! I think it got better early second trimester.

Don't get me started on the heartburn and back ache now though Wink.

ChunkyButFunky87 · 18/11/2020 15:23

I do not recall feeling this exhausted with DD1. I work 10.5 hour shifts which doesn't help, yesterday I needed match sticks, was in bed 7.20pm until 7am today! Felt a little better today but yes, it's definitely worse this time

4amWitchingHour · 18/11/2020 15:33

Don't wait til 9/10pm to go to bed! Sleep as much as you can, you're growing another human at an enormous rate. IME it does get better in the second trimester, and then tired again (in a different way) towards the end of the third. Congratulations!! Hope you start feeling better soon :)

Mine eased in the second trimester too. I’ve never known exhaustion like it lol and certainly don’t remember being that tired with my previous two. I found napping at any chance I had got me through the day even if for 15 minutes and early nights to catch up on the night time toilet trips. I’m feeling the tiredness creeping back now I’m 26 weeks which is much earlier than I expected! Hope it eases for you soon

zippityzip · 18/11/2020 17:13

You'll be tired from the rest of your life from here on out....

(Sorry. Lighthearted. I hope you feel better soon).

Best wishes - extremely tired and pregnant with DC3.

This lasted until about 10/11 weeks with DD2. Can’t remember how long with DD1. I have iron level issues though so I’m often exhausted but first trimester tiredness is something else! I actually fell asleep in the theatre which I have never done before. Only DH knew I was pregnant at this point so my family were wondering what was wrong with me.

I haven’t told anyone other than my partner yet and my dads starting to get quite concerned as to why I miss all his phone calls... I’ve told him not to bother trying to phone me after 8pm... or between about 1 and 4pm as I’ll be sleeping 😂

I'm 7 weeks and completely exhausted most of the time but worse from about 5pm. I'm wfh as well. I remember being exhausted with my dd and it lifted at about 14 weeks but i was commuting a fair distance then everyday. Now I don't have the commute and feel worse. I guess though this time I have a 3 year old whirlwind to entertain! Confused

reservoircats · 18/11/2020 17:39

Completely sympathise with you OP. I am 8 weeks and this whole week I have called in sick because I'm so tired I can barely move from my bed. The exhaustion is ridiculous, I feel so so useless and just can't wait to be able to function properly again.
Having small glasses of full fat coke is the only thing that gives me boosts of energy at the moment.

GanderousGoose · 18/11/2020 17:42

Oh my goodness, so good to read of others feeling the same as I am! I'm not sure people actually understand how exhausted we feel. I didn't have this with DS1 but am absolutely dead on my feet and good for nothing by the time I get home. My GP has said to ask for reasonable adjustments.

feistymumma · 18/11/2020 17:51

It's the hunger for me. Omg. I'm constantly ravenous

feistymumma · 18/11/2020 17:55

Yesterday I was in the kitchen cooking and by the time I sat down it seemed as if I had been on my feet all day. They ached. I guess I am not feeling too exhausted as I am on a month's break from work so apart from school run I am just spending all the time in bed.

HappyDaze90 · 18/11/2020 18:55

Oh no 😩
I hope we all get a much needed break from the exhaustion soon ladies!!

I knew I was pregnant then second time before I even took a test because I went to bed at 4:30pm one day lol. It twigged when i woke up and I was Grin
I was a nurse working 12 hour shifts in a nursing home with my first. I remember it was Boxing Day and I was sat in the clinic room listening to the residents enjoying themselves falling asleep on the desk lol. It got better with my first but with my second I had low iron levels so ended up on tablets. Congratulations!

HappyDaze90 · 18/11/2020 21:23

God, here’s me complaining when I work 3 hours a day and some of you are out doing 12 hour shifts 🙈

Don’t know how you ladies are doing it, superheroes 😂🧡

At 9 weeks I fell asleep in the 3 mins my DH went to get dinner out of the oven and plate it up (at 6pm). At 12 weeks I feel a lot better!

HappyDaze90 · 19/11/2020 20:25

I just proper lost my rag with my partner over virtually nothing. I’m so tired and cranky and I feel like an asshole now 😩

OP posts:
HotDiggidy2017 · 19/11/2020 20:46

Feeling you in the headaches. Feels like I’ve had one for a month now... 🙄

Mc1989 · 19/11/2020 20:52

I’m also 9 weeks and this is my first pregnancy! I am so relieved to see I’m not the only one, my tiredness is overwhelming.
I don’t know how all my friends did it before me, and no ones ever complained about the first trimester, I had no idea it was a thing! I go to work and it’s like I’m just there, I can’t concentrate, because I’m concentrating on the nausea mixed with extreme hunger and tiredness the whole day.

Then I get home and literally lie in my bed from teatime onwards, my husband delivers me dinner (in bed) then I maybe pee 100 million times before being too warm to sleep. My days off are spent lying in bed all day too! I haven’t done anything productive in about 5 weeks and I feel awful about it!

I take my hat off to all the mums before me and those doing it with other kids. How ? Just how ? Lol 😂
