Side sleeper with ottoman bed

Hello wise Mumsnet users,

I want to get a side sleeper cot for my baby due in May, so I'm not in a rush yet but looking at all the black Friday deals. I had been looking at the snuzpod however the base of our bed sticks out slightly further than the mattress - so the box is about 5cm wider. Snuz have said their pod could only be used as a standalone as obviously there will be a gap.

Does anyone know which side sleepers would work with our bed? We only bought it less than a year ago so no plans on changing our bed any time soon!

Maxi cosi iora slides closer to the bed! Thats the one I'm getting with my ottoman :) and its quite a big cosleeper in size too.

I had rented a Bednest. It has a side flap which if left down can 'bridge' the gap to your mattress. I have an ottoman too. Best part was that everything except the mattress could be sent back so no reselling hassle.

If you push the mattress across the gap, essentially moving the gap to the far side of the crib, then you can fill that gap with a section of pool noodle and cover the whole thing with the crib sheet.

This is obviously not the manufacturers guidelines, so risk assess it yourself, but if the noodle is flush with the mattress and there are no gaps, then I think it's safe.

Ah some great suggestions here! I hadn't realised the maxi-cosi can slide along too, I'd liked that one but ruled it out based on the legs, turns out it can go back on the list.

@FakeFlamingo how was it hiring one? Did it arrive in a good condition? It's tempting when they can't be in there for long to save on storing or the faff of re-selling!

@PlanBea - it was dead easy to get as well as return. They have the whole mechanics in place to make it super smooth for sleep deprived moms. The bed and sheets they send are new and for you to keep. The rest of the cot was in top shape so no complaints. Their system ensures they check/fix everything before they send it out as that's fundamental to their business model I guess. I used it only for 3 months max so really saved me a load of hassle.

I had a next to me but never let the side down on it (couldn't figure out how to do it)

I still loved the side sleeper and the babies liked it too.
