Hello Mumsnetters,

This is my first post and unfortunately it's not how I imagined it. I'm 7+4 weeks pregnant, first pregnancy, had pain in the right ovary area yesterday and 15 minutes later - significant amount of blood. We went to the hospital, they found that the cervix was closed and gave me an ultrasound scan appointment for Wednesday. I had some spotting since.

I was besides myself so DH and I went to a private early pregnancy scan in the morning, the scan showed it wasn't ectopic, the sac was in the right place with some bleeding next to it. However, it also showed the fetus to be much smaller - 6+2 weeks. And the sonographer said the heartbeat was very faint... I am confident I have the dates right and I've been tracking the ovulation.

Does this mean it's the beginning of a miscarriage? Has anyone else had this? I'll see the doctor only in 2 days and the wait is killing me.

Hi OP, I don't have any first hand experience in this but didnt want to read and run. I'm so sorry you're going through this experience, it must be so stressful! I'm currently pregnant with my second and had early scans with both and both times they said my dates were behind about a week/10 days but then by 12 weeks my first dates were correct so I'm really hoping that's the case for you! Big hugs and good luck xx

So sorry you are going through this, it’s so stressful. I’m currently pregnant with DC2 and I went for what i thought was an 8 week scan but was measuring just under a week behind. Went back a couple of weeks later and baby was actually ahead by a few days so I would try not to get too hung up on the dates at this stage as you are so early on. I have everything crossed that all goes ok but from someone who has sadly suffered a miscarriage previously and with a faint heartbeat detected I would say prepare yourself for the worst and hope for the best. Sending you a big hug xxx

Thank you for your kind message @Britannah
I think it has sunk in now, and we are ready for the worst.
Best of luck with your pregnancy! Xx

I had an early scan at 6 weeks & was dated at only 4 weeks. I was pretty sure of my dates so was sure I was going to miscarry. After 2 scans later the baby had moved forward a week & now I'm 17 weeks.

Hi OP,

When I was 6.5 weeks pregnant and I had a scan they told me I was 5.5 weeks. I was so convinced something was wrong as I too was certain on my dates. Turns out nearly all the women in my due date FB group had the exact same thing happen and it's completely normal to be put back a week. By 10-12 weeks everyone's dates were moved forward and matched up. It's so very small and growing so quickly that it's hard to get a very accurate measurement.

As for the heartbeat, my EPU refused to listen to it that early as it can be hard to get a accurate measurement.

I hope that reassures you a bit and sending you lots of love xx

@smaugli how did you get on? Xx

lilly02 · 20/11/2020 23:24

How did it go? X

Smaugli · 21/11/2020 01:14

@ShalomToYouJackie @lilymty

Unfortunately the NHS scan showed no heartbeat. They also said that the private scan most likely haven't detected a heartbeat either...

I had a surgical management of MMC today. The past few days were surreal... Now thinking that last Saturday I was feeling great and peeking at baby products websites makes my mind race.

But we will not stop 🌈

Thank you for checking on me Flowers

Bless you op I was in your exact position. It’s really incredibly hard, I went on to have my little girl post are next try however. It’s a brilliant sign that you can become pregnant and therefore I’m sure it won’t be long before you are holding your baby xxx
