Hey ladies has anyone had the 12 week screening test? I'm trying to find out exactly how they do it. The leaflet I got wasn't very clear thanks

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Blood test for you from the arm plus measurements taken from a scan.

They take some bloods from your arm and they scan the fluid at the back of the babies neck.

Meomeomeo · 15/11/2020 19:41

They take your bloods to check for antibodies, blood type, for screening for down, etc. The scan is to check how the pregnancy has progressed, heartbeat, single/twins, measuring fluid at back of baby neck, etc.

@Tomatoandbasil @Oneandabean @Meomeomeo thanks ladies I was getting a bit worried because I had read that they inject you with a needle to take fluid from the baby to do the tests but maybe they just scan now 🙂

@ThirdTimeLuckyIHope that’s amniocentesis or CVS which they would offer if the screening tests showed up a high risk of the conditions screened for.

Iwouldlikesomecake · 15/11/2020 20:09

That’s the invasive screening you would be offered if your non-invasive screening comes back with a high chance of Down’s syndrome or the other trisomy syndromes, OP. It isn’t the first line of screening.

@Tomatoandbasil @Iwouldlikesomecake thank you I feel much better now x
