With DD I had a 28 day cycle at the time & ended up induced at 40+10. This time round I had a 21 day cycle (amazing I got pg tbh & first time too) & have used one of these online calculators that takes your cycle into account. It gave me an edd of about 10 days earlier than hospital. I'm just interested to know if anyone has had experience of differing cycle lengths & whether they actually did seem to have a bearing on the length of their pg?
Not that I'm desperate to get it out or anything
TIA

I didn't know it made a difference until we had a scare at our 12 week scan, when they thought (based on LMP) I was 13+4 weeks and diagnosed an exomphalos...

At our second opinion, they actually asked me about my cycle (40 days average, but irregular) and based on that info and size of beany, adjusted my dates to 11+6. (it also cleared up some of the worry about exomphalos - but that's a lo-o-ong story on another thread...).

So based on my original dates, (and if we hadn't had the scare) I'd be put about a week overdue now, but as it is, I've still about a week to go...

But we'll see, shall we !?

Er, I'm fairly sure they're just Braxton Hicks

meandmy · 17/10/2007 17:44

my cycle was 28days then when i got pg i tested early a week after ov +pg went fpa they set my due date by lmp at 4may06 scan showed my baby smaller they set my edd 24may06 my dd was born 06june06 my mom said all of us arrived by her lmp dates + 9months 1 week or 40weeks with exception of my youngest sister who has cf. my cycles have finally returned to 28days

donnie · 17/10/2007 17:51

my cycle was always around 34 days. Dd1 was born at 39+3 and dd2 was on time. Go figure, if you can!

FunkyGlassSlipupandyouredead · 17/10/2007 17:57

6 week cycle. Both Dds early.

28 day cycle with dd but was induced early.28 day cycle with ds, he was born on his due date...he is 2 today.

NoBiggy · 17/10/2007 18:01

24 day cycle, births at 40+8 and 40+12.

FurryFox · 17/10/2007 18:07

Had a 28 day cycle with dd and she was 2 weeks late. Since dd was born cycle was 38 days long. My GP says it makes no difference how long your cycle is and this time my due date is 10th December even though 40 weeks from my first day of my last period (3/3/07) is 8th December. The online calculator bearing in mind a 38 day cycle gives me a edd of 18th December. I have no idea when this one will arrive

Doesn't seem like there is an actual correlation then does it, wonder why they even have these calculators.
I know baby won't come till it wants anyway but I'm hoping it wants to soon. [big & uncomfy emoticon, can't believe there isn't one on here]

They ask about cycle length because the "40 weeks from first day of last period" thing assumes you ovulate (hence conceive) round about day 14 or so. If you have a 40 day cycle then you probably don't ovulate then, it's more likely to be between days 24 and 30.

IME online calculators give a date around 3 days earlier than UK hospitals anyway. Then adding in a week for the difference between 21 and 28 days would make up your ten days, I think.

You'd need a much bigger sample size than you're going to get here to draw any meaningful conclusions about correlation, given the variety of gestational times you get for babies anyway.

lemonaid I have my clipboard ready & am about to go stand outside Tesco to canvass opinion. Hopefully I won't insult too many women who don't have post-pg bellies & are just fat!

35 day cycle, told due 29/09/07 but did query this as using online calculators it kept coming up as 06/10/07. Told scan date suggested 30/09/07, so they'd go with that.

Baby born 09/10/07 following sweep - with lots of vernix on. Midwife commented that no way was she 9 days overdue....

Going with my date next time!

bealcain · 18/10/2007 10:13

hiya, never really thought about cycle being related to length of pregnancy, but i have a 46 day cycle and i went 40+10 with both my babies! maybe long cycle could influence a longer pregnancy. or just more confusion with dates!!

LiegeAndLief · 18/10/2007 13:03

I have an extremely irregular "cycle" and hadn't had a period for 5 months when I conceived ds - not sure when that would have made him due!

Bit immaterial anyway as he had to come out by cs at 34 weeks.
