Pets and pregnancy

Has anyone else got pets who you think are sensing your pregnancy? I’ve got a female cat who is usually the devil incarnate and you can’t go near her. The last few days she is constantly on my lap snuggling up to stomach. It’s the most adorable thing ever! I love how tuned into things like this animals are.

I swear both my cats knew I was pregnant before I did. One of them comes and has a cuddle with bump every evening and when he puts his head on my bump and purrs, the baby starts kicking away ❤️

My dog is a lot more snuggly with me. She loves to curl up next to me on the sofa. In fact, she loves to wriggle in between DH and me when we're sitting on the sofa as well .

My dog was behaving oddly and kept trying to get on my lap (30+kg) which is very unusual for her. This went on for a few days and so I thought something was up, period was late so did a pregnancy test and it was positive! Now she is literally my bodyguard, will never be more than 2 ft from me apart from when Hubby is home to take over :)

My dog would sit at the other side of the room and stare at me with sad eyes, he also stopped jumping up at me. I have been pregnant 3 times before around him but i miscarried. So this time i think he was super nervous. I tap my belly now and ask him where the babies are and he comes for cuddle. I think hes excited too. Animals are so clever i think its a good insight of how they will be when the baby is born.

Yeah! My dog (10 year old rotty) was with us whilst I laboured and he was mortified following me round looking concerned. I took so many photos, I just never want to forget his face.

They do understand more than we give credit for.

My dog has started flipping out at other people/dogs on walks when they come too close for no other apparent reason. A dog trainer suggested to me that he might know 🤔

I have one cat who is like a furry pregnancy test. He is neutered but when I'm pregnant he turns into a sex pest and just won't leave me alone - constantly trying to hump me the minute I sit down - gets cross and whines if I say no 🤣

The first time it happened I was convinced his neutering had reversed itself or something (blame pregnancy hormones for that crazy idea!) So I took him to the vets who thought it was hilarious

I have another cat who usually lies on me to sleep but when Im pregnant he seems to sense it and won't lie on my stomach at all

Mine is not particularly in tune with human emotions, when people say their dogs know when they're upset etc... nope! So not surprised he's oblivious

Why didn’t I think about this!! I have three cats, two are extremely cuddly all the time whereas the other likes to lie on another seat himself. The past few weeks he has constantly been sitting beside me, staring at me and whenever I lie down on the couch he comes and curls up beside my stomach. I’ve found it very odd but didn’t think it could be this. My eldest cat is very aware of my emotions, when he sees me cry he puts a paw on my arm and nuzzles his head into my neck and face 🥺

I love animals so much!

My kitty has been laying on my stomach even before I knew I was pregnant. Every single night without fail she lies across my stomach/side when I’m in bed! Had her 10 years and although she loves a cuddle, she never done it specifically like that!

I have a dog & two cats. My dog hasn’t really changed much, as she always watches me like a hawk anyway. My 8 year old cat is a bit of a psycho kitty, & is only nice to me when she wants feeding. But she’s being a little nicer to me lately. Not sure if it’s due to me being 5 weeks pregnant. My 6 year old cat loves cuddles & will often snuggle with me, but this past 2-3 weeks when I’m sat at my desk, she sits next to me meowing to jump up & snuggle while I’m working. She’s never sat on my lap at my desk like that before, & she’s been doing it since before I found out (4 days ago) lol pets are great! Can’t wait to see what these like with the baby 😂

I have a female cat who is normally very nervy and shy and my bump has been like a magnet to her. she’s on me all the time! The logical part of me knows it’s probably just because I’m warmer than normal, but I like to think she can sense it. She’s going to hate it when the baby is born though because she demands total peace and quiet at all times

Ahhh these stories are so lovely My little shadow today... I love this as she always looks like she’s snuggling and hugging my stomach. Feel like I have a little protector!

My friend’s dog started milking when my friend was in the last trimester and needed to be put on anxiety medication.

I’m so jealous of all these! I don’t think my DCat clocked that I was having a baby until I bought her home and he was evicted from the bed

My dog certainly senses something, whether he knows I'm pregnant, or can sense I'm just not feeling great though, I'm not sure. He's been lying on the sofa with me with his head on my legs when I've been having a lie down in the afternoon. He never does this normally. He does seems to be choosing to lie/sleep nearer me than DH recently too.

They can smell it... humans have a terrible sense of smell compared to dogs and cats - they can smell all the hormonal changes.
