Sleep in pregnancy

Every night for weeks now I wake up at around 4am and can't settle to sleep, I doze but not sleep.

I'm not too concerned as part of me sees it as prep for sleepless nights, I just wondered if it's a pregnancy thing, I don't remember it with my first pregnancy.

I know being on my phone probably isn't helping 🙈 but I'm so awake.

Hi @Wherethereshope I definitely found this too, especially in the 3rd trimester. I would wake up almost exactly at 2am every night! My baby is now 6 weeks old so now awake at this time for a different reason Grin

Mummyinlove09 · 12/11/2020 05:18

I had this from around week 20 right the way through to when I had my daughter almost 4 weeks ago! 4am on the dot every morning I’d be awake so I feel your pain! Hopefully yours doesn’t last as long as mines did! Flowers

I've had this in pregnancies. Audio books is my only suggestion

Terriblecreature · 12/11/2020 05:21

I am the same, although my toddler has been making a point of also getting up between 4am and 4.30am. I am usually awake before him though. 23 and half weeks here and it's been going on for over a week. I only find it tiring come the afternoon when I could go for a nap, but that doesn't happen. I am now usually sleeping before 9pm to make up for it lol x

I'm 11 weeks and keep waking at 5am to pee then cant get back to sleep!

Pukeymama · 12/11/2020 06:31

I'm just over 38 weeks now and thought I'd managed to avoid this, but the last week has been awful. Everytime I need to turn over (which is a lot!) I wake up and can't get back to sleep. It's so annoying! So much for resting up before the baby comes 😖

NatalieH2220 · 12/11/2020 06:48

38 weeks here and I don't remember the last time I slept through. Last time I was pregnant I slept perfectly right until my son was born so I'm hoping the sleepless nights will be less of a shock this time at least!

xxxemzyxxx · 12/11/2020 14:59

I had the same, always 4am. I didn't even need to pee, just woke up for no reason.

scotgal99 · 12/11/2020 15:24

Same as a couple of the ladies on this thread, 38 weeks & having the worst nights sleep. I think it’s a mixture of being pregnant, coronavirus/lockdowns & anxiety about giving birth in the near future.

Wherethereshope · 12/11/2020 21:29

Thanks all.. I'm only 10 weeks so I'm hoping it's a phase!

Im 11 weeks and have been doing this evey night since pregnant. Waking at 4am sleeping at 5.30am then up for school at 7am Confused

penguin423 · 12/11/2020 22:52

I did this a lot in the first trimester. I read a lot of books very quickly! Hope you get some better sleep soon Smile

LG101 · 13/11/2020 00:05

This happened to me, 4am on the dot and guess what time my contractions started 4am. Probably not linked but slightly cool

Tucancrossing · 13/11/2020 01:23

This was me for most of my pregnancy. Would wake up at about 4am and be completely unable to go back to sleep. Unfortunately I didn't find a solution. But I will say that I now have a 5 week old and I'm honestly getting way more sleep now than I did when I was pregnant, so all the 'getting me ready for the baby' was unnecessary 😆

EL1984 · 13/11/2020 05:08

I was the same! Awake for a good 2 hours at the same time through the night. I would give up trying to sleep, get up have something to eat, read a little bit in the living room and then back to bed. Often this was a quicker way back to sleep than just lying there.

mummatoone16 · 13/11/2020 07:07

I get the 4am wake up as well! How bizarre

clb8921 · 13/11/2020 07:58

I’ve not slept through the night since four days before I even got a positive test. I’m 17 weeks now. I think I must be up every couple of hours, and if I wake up any time after 4am, that is it! No chance of getting back to sleep. It probably doesn’t help that I’m not used to sleeping on my side - I miss sleeping on my front so much! 😭
