Blood booking appointment

Hi ladies

Sorry if this is a really silly and obvious question, but I have a blood booking appointment next week (I will be 7 weeks then). Was just curious as to what happens on this appointment. I’ve asked some friends and they’ve not had that before. It’s only a 15 minute appointment. I presume they just take bloods and get back to me with the results?xx

Your booking in bloods? It's to check blood group type and the initial checks for things like iron levels, the midwife will normally let you know if there is anything out of the ordinary in the results. I had to take a urine sample as well so best to go prepared.

@July21Baby they didn't call it that but with my PG earlier in the year my local midwife service had split out the bloods from the booking appt to minimise midwife contact due to covid. The midwife booking appointment was by phone and the blood test was just that - a standard blood test with nothing about the pregnancy at all. They never came back to talk to me with results (but they were written in my pregnancy notes). I assume if there had been anything odd they would actively tell you.

Thank you @Disappointedkoala and @Mimba1. I figured it would probably be just a standard blood test as I have a phone call with my midwife on the 7th December.

Hoping the blood test doesn’t confirm I’m not actually pregnant!xx

Yes they used to do bloods at the booking in appointment. It was about an hour appt going through lots of questions about you and family history plus taking urine and bloods. Now with covid they're doing the questions by phone and just a 10 minute appt for bloods.

I wasn’t told our trust were splitting appointments, she took my blood, my pressure and asked me to leave! A couple of weeks later I had a booking in phone call with my community midwife!

@July21Baby FWIW they won't actually test anything to tell if you're pregnant in the bloods! They check for anaemia, your blood group and for things like sickle cell and HIV. You'll have to rely on old fashioned POAS to know you still have HCG in your system! The most interesting thing I got from it was finding out my blood group which I feel like I should've already known but didn't... The booking appt is equally unexciting in fairness!

@Mimba1 I said this recently to my mum, how can I not know my own blood type! I’ve taken about 6 tests so il keep it at that for now 😂
