Double Aortic Arch

Hi, Attended a referral at Liverpool Womens Hospital yesterday and baby was diagnosed with Double Aortic Arch. We have been offered an amnio which we have declined, but just wondering what other peoples experiences are of receiving this diagnosis and then testing positive for DiGeorge syndrome.
I'm worrying myself sick, thanks

I know how you feel! We got a diagnosis of right hand aortic arch at the 20 week scan ... deciding whether to have the Amnio was the most stressful thing I’ve ever been through I think! We had it, surprisingly not painful really, and all results came back normal. Baby will need checkups after birth but they said only 1/20 chance any corrective procedure would be needed.

My daughter had a double aortic arch. Hers was only discovered at 16 months after lots of investigations. She had surgery 2 days later and is now a happy health 25 year old. Albeit with an impressive scar that runs from her chest to her back. Smile

Thank you, I think I’m more worried regarding the DiGeorge side of things rather than the heart as that can be fixed successfully. DiGeorge seems like such a vast array of different symptoms that can affect people so differently.

Hi my niece was diagnosed with a double aortic arch in her 20 week scan. My sister refused to get the amnio done as doctors said the same thing that it could possibly be the digeorge syndrome. My niece had the surgery quiet soon after birth and she is absolutely fine and recovered well. She doesnt have the George syndrome. Hope that helps.

Yes same here, that’s why I decided to go for the Amnio even with the small risk of miscarriage. Not for everyone I know! The chance of it being DiGeorge related are pretty low though, especially if no other issues have been seen during your anomaly scan etc.

Thank you all so much, it’s making me feel better.

2021febmum intrigued to hear how you got on as I am in the exact same situation at the moment - 20 weeks pregnant and not sure what to do 😬
