Nuchal fold measurements

Hi everyone,
I've had my 12 week scan and whilst baby heartbeat and size were fine, my NT measurement was 4.4mm. I've had bloods done and the fetal medicine doctor told me that without this it is very difficult to say much more and they will call me in the next 3 days. I'm 39 and this is my third pregnancy, first was ectopic, second normal and I have a two year old daughter. I don't remember what the NT fold measurement was at this stage for her but it obviously wasn't clinically significant.
Does anyone have any experience of this? I know it's only an indicator at this stage but I am worried and upset whilst waiting for the bloods and I'm concerned because of my age. I had the moment of relief when I saw the flickering heartbeat and little legs kicking then the sonographer took the measurements and explained the issue.
Thank you in advance xx

@Simz01 great to hear! How far along are you now? What were you initial NT readings?

The heart scan / fetal echo went well, everything looked fine. I have another 20 weeks scan with the same consultant and if that is fine I should go back to midwife care.

I think I'll be worried until the day I deliver (but then who isn't a little bit?) but at the moment all is looking a lot more positive.

I am 27+2 weeks , how about you?

Aw so glad the echo went fine too :)

My NT wasn't that high, but still higher at 2.9mm. It was combined with no nasal bone visible which made put the risk higher.

I worry too despite all the tests. I think I naively went into the 12 weeks scan even looking forward to it thinking all will be fine - i really wasn't clued up about such outcomes. And then that day and all the waiting was the worst and had just increased my anxiety in general.

But I am trying to be more positive and less worried, we both should xx

Hi ,

I have been through this and just wanted to share my journey, if that helps any one who is currently pregnant.
On my 20 week dating scan my baby ‘s nuchal fold measured at 6.5mm where the threshold is 6mm. I was referred at Fetal medicine unit for follow up scan in a week to double check . It was increased to 7.5mm which is a quite big and is a soft marker for DS. It was a difficult moment for me and my partner. We were offered invasive test which could provide us whether baby has a DS or not but I declined it due to risk of miscarriage. No matter what results would be we were committed to our pregnancy.
Everything other than Nuchal fold was absolutely fine I couldn’t risk my baby by taking invasive test.
We were closely monitored by scans every 4 week for baby’s growth everything was going well, but we were under pressure and anxious constantly throughout pregnancy, we kept praying for him . God is the best planner indeed , my baby boy was born in September and is prefectly healthy (no DS) .
Just believe in God If you are going through difficult time , no matter what you will love your baby .. keep praying and everything will be fine 😊
