A ldy I am talking to has been advised that she may not be able to have the homebirth she desperately wants due to low B12.
Do any of you health profesionals know why this would be? She's a bit upset. She had a difficult time at her last birth, has no family close by and would prefer to be home with dh and lo.

Sorry - no information, but have you/she tried on the homebirth yahoo group? You can get to it through the www.homebirth.org.uk website. At least it would access another group of homebirth minded women that may have come across the situation before.

Hope you can get an answer

I have low B12 and have 3mthly injections for this. Does your friend have any treatment? As far as I am aware this has no bearing on where I can have my baby.

It depends on how well controlled her B12 and iron levels are

I have B12 anaemia problems and the hospital were not happy for me to have a natural third stage as they feared I would bleed too much

I am not surprised that she is having issues getting a home birth
Has she spoken to a consultant?

Hi ladies, thanks for your replies. I don't hink she's seen cons bout it yet as mw only told her couple days ago.
I've had to have iron injections before now cos of hb being down to 7 but never heard of B12 being a problem.

She's a lady who's been buying nappies off me and we've just become friendly. She knows I've trained to ba a Doula so she asked me my opinion. Don't want to give her bad advice and cause more stress.

I'll tell her to try and get more info from consultant before making final decision. Might have time to sort it before bubs arrives, hopefully.

Often the MWs are just cautious and want the consultant to sign off as okay for home birth

Theblonde - do you have treatment (ie injections like me) for this? I'm a little concerned now as nobody has mentioned about it causing probs.....I am no longer B12 deficient but this is only because I have the 3 monthly injections...

Hi rascal1979 - yes I have B12 jabs. They only discovered my deficiency mid way through my pregnancy so I was still fairly anaemic
