Im 21 weeks pregnant and wondering if anyone else is suffering from constipation? It's been 3 days and still haven't been and no sign! I also keep getting the worst trapped wind under my ribs and on the sides of my bump! Are there any relief medications that are safe for us to take?

Hi

Yes I'm 20 weeks and had lactulose from the docs, they prescribed it. Plenty of water but I think the second trimester is the worst for constipation.

magnesium
I took one tablet (250mg I think) at lunchtimes and one before bed.

plus the usual fibre rich foods (prunes, wholemeal) and plenty of water and gentle exercise.

It's grim, but totally natural remedy... prune juice. Small glass a day

Thanks everyone. I'll definitely look into your recommendations!

@Phie04 I too am still in the same boat, my doctor prescribed me laxido which has been brilliant as I was bleeding every trip to the toilet and not able to go for maybe 4 days at a time. If I stop taking it within 2 days I'm back to being constipated!

I apologise if this is slightly off-topic and much too much information, I am sure, but does anyone else experience spotting after "ahem" straining at the toilet? I got a bit of a scare today with some light pink/brown spotting for several hours this morning.

FeistySheep · 02/06/2021 16:24

@HolidayGolightly how far along are you? I don't know about the 1st trimester tbh, but assuming you're in 2nd/3rd trimester, you should report spotting to your midwife the first time it happens (and ask whether they want you to report if it happens again).
If it happens when you go to the toilet/have sex or similar, it could be just sensitive tissue (greater blood flow down there in preg) or could be an ectropion. But could also be infection and (hopefully not) but it may be possible the blood is not yours. If you are rhesus negative you'll probably need anti-D for any bleeding in 2nd/3rd trimester, but even if you're positive you should def phone and ask if they want to investigate.

@FeistySheep I am only 9+4 and I know it isn't ectopic because I've already had two scans. I also am A+, so that's good. I did call and I go in on Friday for a swab test thingamabob, so we shall see. I've had two previous pregnancies which were decades ago, granted, but never had these kinds of spotting worries. Oh, joy!
