Huge weight gain

In my first two pregnancies I gained 3st and I'm really worried about putting on so much again this time. I've only literally just found out I'm pregnant but I really want to try to avoid putting on that much this time. I am 8st10lb at the moment. What is a realistic but healthy weight gain?

This calculator is a good guide.

I gained 3 stone with my ds but this time round Ive only gained 1.5stone and I'm over 37 weeks. I've been a lot more active this time.

Hi from what I've read a 2-3 stone weight gain is normal and healthy. Don't forget the baby alone will weigh nearly half a stone, then there's the weight of the placenta & enlarged uterus. Your body has a lot of extra water & blood and your boobs get bigger. You will be storing a bit of extra body fat in preparation for breastfeeding.

In both my pregnancies I had hyperemesis at the start and lost over a stone. First pregnancy I gained back what I had lost plus an extra 3 stone. I gained a lot in the last few weeks as I was constantly hungry & felt sick if I didn't eat. This time round I've gained my weight back plus 2 stone even though I've been a lot less active as I've been working from home. I haven't done much exercise as I'm struggling with a bad back & pelvic pain. I'm 39 weeks so hoping not to gain too much more weight as I was heavier to start with this time round.

A lot of the weight gain will come off pretty quickly after birth. I never got back down to what I was pre pregnancy (until I got hyperemesis again!) but that's because I have no willpower when it comes to chocolate! And I'm lazy, I don't do much exercise. I can't be bothered with the effort & depriving myself for the sake of a couple of pounds 😊

I’m 35 weeks and have gained about 1 stone 10 lb so far (starting weight around 9 stone 6) Midwife said this was fine last time I saw her. I don’t think my diet has been particularly healthy, but I have been going for daily walks (3mile minimum and the occasional 6 miles) plus keeping up with yoga/running/Pilates. I think this has helped me a lot.
